(Witness) Anecdote1854 When Amos and Ainor Fisher Mabie were 55 years old, they and 9 of their 10 children moved to Michigan from Yates County in Western New York. They settled in Solon Township (at the time was part of Algoma twp.) about twenty five miles North of Grand Rapids, Mich.3 
Land*1855  In 1855 at Solon Township, Kent County, Michigan, Elias Mabie In 1855 Elias walked from Cedar Springs to Ionia, Michigan and back (a total distance of about 80 miles to apply for a tract of land from the government under the settler's license act of 1858. He had 85 acres of land, obtained from the government for 75 cents an acre. He built a log cabin on the corner of Algoma Ave and Solon Road. The property on White Creek Avenue, Solon Township, is still owned by his great grandson, Roy Mabie.3 
Marriage*between 1855 and 1856 He married Rhoda Rounds, daughter of Russell Rounds and Amata Rowe, between 1855 and 1856.4

Marriage*12 January 1826 He married Maria Mabie, daughter of Jacob Mabie and Mary Tallman, on 12 January 1826.1 
Note*1832  John, his wife Maria, and children moved in 1832 to Crawford County, Pennsylvania. John was one of founders of Spring & Cussawago Baptist Church. In 1843 the family settled near Belvidere, Boone, Illinois, and in 1846-1850 in Florence Twp., Stephenson Co., Illinois. The family moved to Illinois in two covered wagons, carrying simple household furniture, a trunk full of victuals, the parents and 8 children. John Turrneaure's big house of quarried limestone, built in 1855 in Florence Twp. is still standing. When Lincoln and Douglas held their debate in Freeport, Illinois, John, who had the finest carriage in the area, drove Lincoln from the railroad station to the debate site. Some 20 or 25 years later the Lincoln carriage was destroyed when the barn of Maria and John's son Albert burned in Dickinson County Iowa. In 1869 John and Maria, with their two unmarried children George and Peter and a married son, Harrison, moved to Clinton, Wisconsin in 1832. 
Death*14 June 1879 John Turneaure died on 14 June 1879 at Clinton, Rock County, Wisconsin, at age 74.2 
oObit*27 June 1879  On 27 June 1879 at St. Charles, Kane County, Illinois, John's obituary read: The Clinton (Wis.) Independent of last week, contained a column obituary of the late John Turneaure, father of Mrs. J. M. Goodhue. Judging from it, Mr. T. was a man of character and ability. He was seventy-four years of age at the time of his death. He was forty-three years a church members. His family of ten children all survive him.3
