Anecdote*1912 McGraw Evans is one of the successful and enterprising farmers of Sheboygan County. His well developed and fine farm is located in Plymouth township where he is engaged in general agricultural pursuits. He was born July 9, 1867, in Plymouth township, Sheboygan county, and bears the name of his grandfather. He was reared in his parents' home and received his early education in the public schools. At the age of twenty-one years he rented his father's farm which he operated until 1904 and later rented the farm adjoining where he now resides. He is engaged in general farming, making a specialty of raising for his own use high grade Holstein cattle.
Mr. Evans was united in marriage, in 1888, to Miss Nina Mabee, a daughter of John and Celeste (Swart) Mabee. The father was born at Hoffmans Ferry, Schenectady county, New York, and is a member of one of the old Holland families who settled at a very early period in the Mohawk valley in the state of New York. On the old homestead the house is still standing which was built many years before the Revolutionary war.
Many of the descendants of the Mabee family were volunteer soldiers in the war for independence. John Mabee, the father of Mrs. Evans, is a veteran of the Civil war, having enlisted in Company E of a New York regiment. At the close of the war he removed to Wisconsin and established his home in Plymouth township. For some little time after taking up his abode in Wisconsin he was employed by the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railway Company, but later returned to his farm where he remained until 1900, after which time he removed to Plymouth, Wisconsin, and there has since maintained his residence. To Mr. and Mrs. John Mabee two children were born: Nina, who was born September 20, 1869, and is the wife of the subject of this review; and Giles, who is a resident of Plymouth, Wisconsin.
To Mr. and Mrs. McGraw Evans three children have been born: Martha, who is engaged in educational work, and is now pursuing studies in the State Normal School at Oshkosh; and Alice and Sarah, who are both living at home. Mr. Evans and his family are affiliated with the Congregational church of Plymouth. He is one of the influential residents of his county and his aid and cooperation are tangible factors for success in many public enterprises.1
Death*20 December 1936 MacGraw Evans died on 20 December 1936 at Plymouth, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, at age 69.4
oObit*21 December 1936  On 21 December 1936 at Sheboygan, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, MacGraw's obituary read: MacGraw Evans, 69, life-long resident here, died Sunday noon at his home, 629 N. Milwaukee Street, following a two weeks' illness. Mr. Evans was born in the town of Plymouth July 19, 1867, the son of Martin and Carolyn Evans. On Dec. 25, 1888, he was untied in marriage to Nina Mabee and the couple resided on a farm in the town of Plymouth until October 1923, when they moved to this city.
Besides the widow, Mr. Evans is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Edward Barry of Forestville, Door County; Mrs. Harold Harmon of Plymouth, route 1; and Mrs. Louis Olson of Sawyer, Door county; five grandchildren and a brother, Byron, of the town of Plymouth.4

Milas Benjamin Cook1

M, #4616, b. 14 December 1951, d. 2 March 2010
Anecdote His mother writes, 'Milas is no stranger to hard times as during his growing up time his father was disabled a good part of the time. He was in and out of hospitals with back surgeries, none of which corrected the problem. I remember when both boys had the Asian flu. It was really a rough time as there was nothing to be done except take aspirin. He had osteomalitis when he was only eleven months old. He was in a hospital in Seattle for 3 months. Doctors were at the point of removing his leg, when they decided to try a new drug (Terramycin). Praise God it stopped the fever and healed him. I remember when he wanted to play the trumpet in school. He didn't have the money to pay for it and he wanted to play so badly that I figured there had to be a way. They were buying fir cones for $1 a gunny sack full, so we picked cones (robbed some squirrel stashes) and finally tot enough to get his instrument. He has always liked music.2
