Note  The Van Petten/Patten family Bible has Frederic born March 23, 1761. Pearson has him living in 1839! Hanson (WTH, 242) has: 'Frederick D. Van Patten, baptized February 15, 1761; died September 3, 1832.' Presumably this date was taken from the pension records, as Hanson notes lastly that Frederick's 'widow received his pension.' Which came 'under the Pension Act of June 7, 1832.' Hanson (ibid) gives those of us descending from Dirk and Frederick D. more to treasure, still on WTH, page 242: 'Cornelius Z. Van Santvoord stated that while he was serving as an ensign in Captain Abraham Oothout's company, 2d Albany County Militia, Van Patten 'told him that he was about sixteen and prayed to be enrolled in said company, which request was complied with by advice and consent of his superior officers. When warned he (Van Patten) was always at his post and conducted himself with zeal and fidelity.' Van Santvoord further stated that he 'was with him at Saratoga, Foirt Edward, Fort Plain, Fort Plank, Ballston, Schoharie, and Cobleskill, said Frederick ever evincing the utmost readiness to serve his country and to risk his life on perilous occasions for her benefit.2
