oObit*  The obituary of Elizabeth Harrington Stafford read: Elizabeth Stafford Martin, 94, passed away Saturday, August 11, at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, the medical facility she and her husband, the late George M. Martin, helped found 51 years ago. Betty had served as dietician at the hospital for 20 years before her retirement.
Born in Seattle, July 26, 1907, she was the daughter of Edward H. and Ruth H. Stafford. She received a B.A. in Home Economics in 1928 and B.S. in Foods and Nutrition in 1929 from the University of Washington. In 1930 Betty married George Maybee Martin. The couple moved to Harrah before settling in Yakima.
For the next 60 years, Betty and George worked together for the betterment of the Yakima Valley. During World War II, she headed the local nutrition service of the American Red Cross. She served as lecturer and instructor in dietetics for YVCC and for the Yakima County Medical Society. Betty was also active in Soroptomist International, Order of Eastern Star, Order of Amarantha, Daughters of the Nile, and the local, state and national PTAs. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Yakima, where she taught Sunday school.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Jean Menning and husband Edgar of Estes Park, Colorado; her daughter
Jane Johnson and husband, Edward of Yakima; her son George S. Martin and wife Vicki of Clyde Hill; and her son Jonathan H. Martin and wife Ina of Yakima. Survivors also include her grandchildren; Elisabeth Menning of Chicago, Kurt Menning of Berkeley, Wendy Arlin and husband Scott of Worthington, Ohio, Victoria Martin of Boston, Dante Martin and wife Jenn of Seattle, and Napoleon, Seth, Justin and
Hans Martin of Yakima.
She was preceded in death by her husband George and by her sister, Margaret Jewett and brother,
Donald E. Stafford, M.D.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 17, at 2 p.m. at the 9th Avenue Keith and Keith Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Foundation of Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital."3

Maybee, 65, native of Oregon and resident of North Bend for the past 32 years, died at 12:45 this morning at the Frank Timmons residence in North Bend following an organic illness of more than five years' duration. She had been at the Timmons home for some time receiving the nursing care of Mrs. Timmons.
Hattie J. Smith was born near Tigard in Washington county, Oregon. She was married to Charles E. Maybee in Grants Pass on Nov. 24, 1899, and with him moved from that city to North Bend 32 years ago. On Coos Bay she was active in the work of the Methodist church and the Order of Eastern Star until ill health interfered.
One son, Harry C. Maybee, one granddaughter, Camille, both of Portland, and the widower, survive.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at Weston, Judge Maybee's family home. The body is at the Peterson Funeral home awaiting shipment Tuesday.8
