On May 28, 1977, she married her beloved husband, David Rolland Mabie, at Midvale Lutheran Church in Madison. David and Cindy's 40 years of marriage and their mutual love and devotion are an inspiration to all who have been blessed to observe it. Cindy came to faith in Christ as a teenager at a Young Life camp in Colorado; love for her God, family, and neighbors defined her life. She introduced everyone she met to a God of love, compassion, hope and joy. Cindy was diagnosed with MS in 1988. The disease and its effects would become inextricably linked to Cindy and her story yet it never overshadowed her. Whatever MS took away only enhanced her spirit. Cindy was a fighter who never gave up, never complained, and never gave power to fear. To her last moment, she moved confidently forward with an assurance and purpose hard won through faith. Cindy created beauty and laughter for everyone in her orbit. Birthdays and holidays, especially the 4th of July, are indelibly marked by the creativity, hospitality and joy of her celebrations. To the very last days of her life, she was a mom. Her love was fierce and creative in its expression. When her disease limited her mobility and her ability to write, Cindy persisted in spreading love and encouragement with handmade cards and handwritten notes. Cindy is survived by her husband, David; her children and their spouses, Joshua and Kerstin Mabie, Nathan and Lynn Mabie, and Ashley (Mabie) and Micah Smith; five grandchildren, Ingrid, Peter, Lewis, Eleanor, and Margot; four brothers, Jim, Tom, Craig, and Kevin; sister-in-law, Deb; three brothers-in-law, Dan, Dean, and Doug; nieces and nephews; in-laws; her devoted caregiver, Nikki; many, many friends; and, her service dog, O'Rillee. Cindy was a force. Her family and friends will miss her independence, optimism, loyalty, sincerity, beauty, and wisdom; but they rejoice that she has inherited eternal life and sees her Lord face to face. Family and friends will celebrate Cindy's life at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017, at HIGH POINT CHURCH, 7702 Old Sauk Road, Madison, Wis. Pastor Laurie Eaton will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Cindy's body will be laid to rest near her mother in the churchyard of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Caledonia the following morning.3 |

(Witness) Anecdote | 1891 | James Mabie is one of the reliable farmers of Clark County who have assisted in conquering the forest and converting the land from the wild state in which nature had left it, to farms of great fertility and beauty. He is a native of Putnam County, New York, born July 22, 1829, and is a son of Levi and Drusilla (Shaw) Mabie, who were also born in New York. They emigrated to Wisconsin in the year 1855, and settled in Fond du Lac County, where the father passed the remainder of his days the mother died at the home of our subject, in Clark County, Wisconsin. The parents were both consistent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and were numbered among the upright citizens of the community. Their family consisted of seven children: Harrison, James, Alanson, Elizabeth, John, Mary and George. James was the second of the family he was reared on a farm in New York, assisting his father in the labors incident to agricultural life. After he came to Wisconsin he resided in Fond du Lac County until 1874, when he came to Clark County and located on the place where he now makes his home. He owns 160 acres of good land, and has cleared about sixty and placed it under cultivation. He has devoted all his energies to this occupation, and has been an energetic, hard working man. Through a flaw in the title to his land he has been obliged to pay for twice this injustice has been a great hindrance to his progress, but he has weathered the gale, and is meeting with success in all his business undertakings. In politics he affiliates with the Republican party, and is a stanch adherent to their principles. He has two children, Henry and Warren, both of whom are living.12 |

Mabie read: The inevitable call of the death angel which sooner or later desolates every household, came to another prominent business man of this city yesterday, and Moses T. Mabie, the well known Main street boot and shoe dealer, passed into the unknown world beyond the portals of the tomb. Mr. Mabie was born in Putnam county, this state, September 4, 1828, making his age at the time of his demise only fifty-six. During the exciting days of 1849 be joined the Argonaut army who sought their fortunes amid the golden sands of the Pacific slope. After two years be turned his steps eastward once more, and in 1851 established himself in the boot and shoe business in Buffalo. He was a man of a quiet, conservative temperament, kind hearted, industrious, and highly respected by all with whom he was brought in contact through his social or business relations. So disinclined to change was he that for a quarter of a century he carried on his vocation at one stand. About four weeks ago he was stricken down by a disease which finally took the form of impoverishment of the blood, and be steadily declined until yesterday when he breathed his last, at his late residence. 909 East Eagle. His untimely death is mourned by a widow and six children. Mortimer M., Webster B. and Anna E. Mabie. Mrs. R. W. Graves, Mrs Frederick Howard and Mrs. James L. Leavitt.11 |
