Born Nov. 10, 1920, in Oswegatchie, daughter of George and Mary Gregg, she graduated from the Oswegatchie Union School and attended business school in Watertown. She married Willard R. Maybee on Nov. 6, 1939, in Carthage. Mr. Maybee died June 12. Mrs. Maybee was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fine, a member of the Presbyterian Church, Wanakena, and a former member of the Women of the Moose, Clearwater, Fla. She enjoyed sewing, painting, craft work, knitting, dancing, and researching genealogy for the book she wrote on the McBroom Family. Surviving are a daughter, Brenda J. Rothwell, Safety Harbor; a son and his wife, Phillip L. and Judy, Ortonville, Mich., three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A brother, Clarence Gregg, died Sept. 23, 1974. A graveside service for Maisie and Willard Maybee will be at a later date in Oswegatchie Cemetery. Arrangements were with the Cremation Society of Michigan.7 |

(Witness) Anecdote | 9 July 1935 | The Fourth of July last week was a memorable day for Mr. and Mrs. John H. Maybee. for to them it was not only the anniversary of the Magna Charter of this country, but also their Golden Wedding day. It was in Edwards, where last week Thursday several thousand people were holding forth in a mighty old-fashioned Fourth frolic, that Clara Wood was married to John Maybee fifty years ago. She was the daughter of Silas and Laura Wood, he the son of Nelson and Eliza Poole Maybee. And last week John and Clara looked back with fond memories to those Edwards and other days, he at the age of 75 years, and she at 74. Mr. and Mrs. Maybee resided in Edwards all the years of their early life. It was in 1910 that they came to Canton to live. Mr. Maybee purchased the Hodskin House, now the Hotel Harrington, in 1911. This he later sold. A quiet man. he nevertheless has a great liking for forging ahead. It was he who built the garage now owned by Percy Dawley. Shortly after the death of the late Wilfred Woodhead. he purchased the lumber and coal business of Robinson & Woodhead, which he has since conducted in partnership with his son. Nelson. During the day of July Fourth Mr. and Mrs. Maybee attended a picnic held in their honor at the Russell picnic grounds. Many relatives, including their four children and several grandchildren were present. During the day many friends and neighbors called to offer congratulations. Gifts of money, a nice floor lamp, and baskets of beautiful flowers were received by the couple. Among the guests attending the picnic were: Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Maybee and family. Mrs. Ralph Gardiner and daughter. Shirley, of Bergen, Mrs. Mildred McKenney, Miss Jean McKenney, Richard McKenney. Mr. and Mrs. John Gilmore and son Harold, of Dekalb. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harris, Mr. and Mrs. George Maybee and son, of Oswegatchie. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Maybee, Miss Inez Maybee. Mr. Web. Maybee, of Russell. Howard Ward, Edwards. Six nephews acted as bearers They were Seth Ward, Balmat; William Weeks. Carthage; Roscoe Harris. Spragueville; Albert and Roy Mason and Nelson Maybee. all of Canton. Mrs. Maybee was born In the town of Edwards. Sept. 5, 1886. a daughter of Jasper and Venilia Hall Ward. She was married toMr Maybee Jan. 1. 1906, at Edwards. The couple lived at Fine and Edwards and came to Russell in 1915. Mr. Maybee was engaged in the lumber business for years until he bought the general store at Russell in 1931. Besides the surviving daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Maybee had another daughter who died in infancy.10 |

Surviving are two daughters: Miss Inez Maybee. at home, and Mrs Hubert (Irene) Beaulieu, Russell: two sisters: Mrs. Ralph (Edith) Morgan. Massena, and Miss Eva Ward, Edwards, and a brother. Howard Ward, Edwards. Six nephews acted as bearers They were Seth Ward, Balmat; William Weeks. Carthage; Roscoe Harris. Spragueville; Albert and Roy Mason and Nelson Maybee. all of Canton. Mrs. Maybee was born In the town of Edwards. Sept. 5, 1886. a daughter of Jasper and Venilia Hall Ward. She was married toMr Maybee Jan. 1. 1906, at Edwards. The couple lived at Fine and Edwards and came to Russell in 1915. Mr. Maybee was engaged in the lumber business for years until he bought the general store at Russell in 1931. Besides the surviving daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Maybee had another daughter who died in infancy.6 |

He was born in South Edwards April 19, 1876 the son of Eliza Poole and Nelson Maybee. On May 4, 1898 he was married to Miss Lena Ward of Edwards. A son Lester, who was killed in a coasting accident in 1935. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Myrtle) Mason of Canton and Mrs. Evelyn Radigan of Gouverneur, one sister. Mrs. Clara Harris, Fine; one brother Burton Maybee, Russell; nine grandchildren two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Sunday from the home of his brother, Burton Maybee with Rev. Myron E. Van Ornum, pastor of the Russell Methodist church officiating. Burial was at Antwerp.12 |

He was born in Antwerp. Aug. 29, 1889, son of Bion and Anna Smith Mason, and married Myrtle Maybee in Antwerp Dec. 27, 1911. In 1941 the couple moved from their farm in Antwerp to a farm on the DeKalb road in Canton. He was a member of Antwerp Congregational church, and a former grange member.5 |

He was born in South Edwards April 19, 1876 the son of Eliza Poole and Nelson Maybee. On May 4, 1898 he was married to Miss Lena Ward of Edwards. A son Lester, who was killed in a coasting accident in 1935. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Myrtle) Mason of Canton and Mrs. Evelyn Radigan of Gouverneur, one sister. Mrs. Clara Harris, Fine; one brother Burton Maybee, Russell; nine grandchildren two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Sunday from the home of his brother, Burton Maybee with Rev. Myron E. Van Ornum, pastor of the Russell Methodist church officiating. Burial was at Antwerp.11 |

(Witness) oObit | 21 September 1944 | Charles Henry Harris was mentioned in the obituary of Clara May Maybee on 21 September 1944; Oswegatchie- Mrs. Clara Maybee Harris, wife of Charles Harris, died on her 63rd birthday Wednesday evening at the farm home near Fine. Death, which occurred during her sleep, was attributed to a heart attack. She had not been well for a number of months, but last Sunday attended the funeral of her brother, Burton Maybee, held at Russell. It is thought that this exertion may have hastened her death. Mrs. Harris was born in Fine, Sept. 20, 1881, youngest daughter of the late Nelson and Eliza Pool Maybee. She was educated in the Fine schools and in 1900, was married to Mr. Harris, a native of Pitcairn. The couple lived at Fowler, operating a farm, until 1904, when they purchased the O.A. Kerr farm on the Ridge road, one mile from Fine, and since had resided there. She was a member of the Methodist church and its Sunday school, secretary of the church W.S.C.S. fro many years, ember of Mountain View grange and secretary-treasurer of the organization for a long period. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Roscoe Harris, Spragueville, and Bert Harris, Pearl River, and five grandchildren.6 |

Harris was mentioned in the obituary of Clara May Maybee on 21 September 1944; Oswegatchie- Mrs. Clara Maybee Harris, wife of Charles Harris, died on her 63rd birthday Wednesday evening at the farm home near Fine. Death, which occurred during her sleep, was attributed to a heart attack. She had not been well for a number of months, but last Sunday attended the funeral of her brother, Burton Maybee, held at Russell. It is thought that this exertion may have hastened her death. Mrs. Harris was born in Fine, Sept. 20, 1881, youngest daughter of the late Nelson and Eliza Pool Maybee. She was educated in the Fine schools and in 1900, was married to Mr. Harris, a native of Pitcairn. The couple lived at Fowler, operating a farm, until 1904, when they purchased the O.A. Kerr farm on the Ridge road, one mile from Fine, and since had resided there. She was a member of the Methodist church and its Sunday school, secretary of the church W.S.C.S. fro many years, ember of Mountain View grange and secretary-treasurer of the organization for a long period. Surviving, besides her husband, are two sons, Roscoe Harris, Spragueville, and Bert Harris, Pearl River, and five grandchildren.1 |
