Death*21 July 2016 Edward Cecil Masters died on 21 July 2016 at age 90.5
oObit*25 July 2016  On 25 July 2016 at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, the obituary of Edward Cecil Masters read: Edd Masters passed away peacefully on July 21, 2016 at the age of 90 after a life fulfilled with family, amazing experiences and many friends. He shared 67 years of love and adventure with his late wife Agnes and was a devoted father and wise advisor to his children Gerrie (Peter Green) Halifax; Ted (Nancy) Ottawa and Susan Siebert (Ed ) Mississauga. He was very proud of his five grandchildren and will be greatly missed by Erica Siebert (Pierre Burton) St. Catherines; Andrew Siebert, Vancouver; Brock Masters (Andrea) Chicago; Clark Masters (Katie Boone) Toronto and Drake Masters (Sabrina), London England. He thrived on their company and never tired of hearing about their careers and travels. He was a greatly loved dad, gramps and papa. Edd was predeceased by his wife Agnes (Wilson) parents Cecil and Marion (Mabee) and his cousin Richard Mabee (Johanna) Florida. He is survived by his cousin Nancy Flagg (Roger) Virginia. Edd was devoted to his community and dedicated much of his life to volunteering. A member of the Chamber of Commerce since 1948, he was its youngest President and instrumental in establishing the Niagara Falls Tourist Bureau. A past President of the Kiwanis club, he was an active member and volunteer for over 55 years and the proud recipient of the Mel Osborne award: the highest Canadian recognition given by Kiwanis for outstanding contribution to community. Edd was President of the Greater Niagara General Hospital Board and led the establishment of the hospital's foundation. Edd was a founding member of the Niagara Falls Curling Club and the Parkway Sailing Club and served on the boards of the United Way and YMCA and the Niagara District Health Council. A lifelong member of St. Andrew's United Church, Edd was always there when the church needed advice or volunteer time. In 1952, he joined the Board of Cave Springs Camp, where he was made an honourary life member in recognition of his many years as a volunteer and supporter. He and Agnes were part of the St. Andrew's team that helped to prepare dinner for homeless people at "Out of the Cold". In 1990, the Niagara Presbytery appointed him to the Board of Ina Grafton, an innovative aging-in-place housing complex, where he continued his support for the need of seniors. Edd was honoured to receive the Province of Ontario's Volunteer Service Award for over 50 years of contribution to his church and community. He was nominated by St. Andrews during the International Year of the Volunteer. Edd's business involvement was as extensive and diverse as his community activities. Some of his best stories - and he loved to tell them with a wonderful sense of humour - were about his experiences as the owner of Edd Masters Men's Shop, a presence on Queen Street for 30 years; becoming a certified Canadian Residential Appraiser; building the Royal Coachman Inn; his international travels and negotiations that made Tussauds Wax Museums a global attraction and his partnership with George Hinterhoeller in the successful development of Hinterhoeller Yachts and it's iconic sail boat the Nonsuch. Above all else, Edd's first love was his wife Agnes, their children and grandchildren. He was always up for a new experience and made it a priority to get the family together to share in these adventures. The now "infamous" summer car trips to different parts of Canada will never be forgotten by Gerrie, Ted and Susan. Edd and Agnes shared the adventure of world travel. Their destination choices were guided by Agnes' golden rule of travel: "we have to get there before it's discovered". They were also avid sailors, spending their summers sailing in The Great Lakes with family and friends and cruising together in the Mediterranean and Caribbean. Dad's was a life well lived. He gave us his unreserved love, was always there for us and enjoyed meeting our friends. He was a good man with a positive outlook on life. He often reminded us that we were a very fortunate family and that we should share our gifts with others. He put great importance on friendship and being there for his friends and family . Our love and respect for him is beyond words. We will miss him greatly but trust that he and mom are together again sharing the next great adventure. On dad's behalf we wish to thank Sam Fiore, Joyce and Gary Dunbar, and Don and Cathy Pierson for their friendship and company over the years. We also want to thank Donna Sherbok from the bottom of our hearts for the loving companionship and care she provided dad and mom. She kept dad going this past 18 months. Their outings gave him a wonderful quality of life that he would not have had without her. Visitation will be held at Hetherington and Deans Funeral Home , on Wednesday July 27 from 2-4 and 7-9. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am Thursday July 28 at St. Andrew's United Church, 5645 Morrison Street. A reception will follow at the church. Donations in Edd's memory may be made to Cave Springs Camp, The Greater Niagara General Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.5
