(Witness) Anecdote13 February 1891 13 Feb 1891, Sullivan [NY] County Court
J. M. Maybee, appearing for the petitioners, Jeanette Dodge, Mary Johnson and Jno. J. Maybee, presented an application for the appointment of a committee of the person and property of Alexander Maybee, a lunatic now in the Middletown Asylum.
A jury of sixteen was drawn to hear the evidence and decide upon the insanity of Mr. Maybee. Jno. J . Maybee, a brother, Justice Hawkins, and Dr. Miller, the family physician, were sworn and testified to t h e mental condition of Mr. Maybee, and described his actions for a few days before his committal to the Asylum. He was possessed of various hallucinations; was fearful that his friends were trying to poison him, and proclaimed himself to be a descendant of a Royal Family. Evidence was taken as to the value of his property, which it seemed amounted to $3,000.
The jury found that he was Insane, and the Court will appoint a Committee to take charge of his property.7
(Witness) oObit5 January 1894 John James Maybee was mentioned in the obituary of Hattie C. Wilson on 5 January 1894 at Monticello, Sullivan County, New York; Hattie Wilson Maybee, wife of John Maybee, of Rockland, died suddenly on New Years day at her home in that village.
She was the only child of the late Burr Wilson. Two years ago the deceased was seriously ill and it was thought she was gradually loosing her mind. She was placed under skilled treatment, and in a few months to all appearance, she was practically cured, but it is thought her indisposition at that time hastened her death.
She is survived by her husband, child and mother.8
Anecdote*19 July 1901 July 19, 1901
In the Surrogate's Court on Monday last a contest was had over the final account of administrators and custodians of the property left by Burr Wilson, late of the town of Rockland.
Mr. Wilson died in 1898. He left him surviving a daughter, Hattie. wife of John J. Maybee. Mrs. Maybee' survived her father six weeks only, leaving an infant child, now known in the proceedings as Harry Maybee. He is now seven years of age. Mrs. Wilson his grandmother took charge of the child and has reared him from his birth.
The father, John J. Maybee, applied to the Surrogate and was appointed general Guardian of his son. Then he got am order from the Surrogate directing the administrators, who were Mrs. Wilson, and M. N. Dodge, to pay to John J. Maybee, as general guardian of Harry, from the estate of Burr Wilson, a sum not exceeding $1500. They actually paid him $1800, which he drew from the estate arid receipted for.
As soon as he got that money he went to Ireland and squandered the money, and Mrs. Wilson has had to provide for the child all its life. All that he has ever done for the child has been to provide one suit of clothes which he ran in debt for and Mt without paying for them.
This last spring he got himself, with John Johnston, appointed administrator of the estate of his deceased wife.
The proceeding on Monday was on a final accounting of the administrators of Burr Wilson's estate. Senator Thornton represented the administrators and Benjamin Reynolds the administrators of the dead wife of Maybee.
Mr.. Reynolds contention was that the payment of $1800 which the administrators claimed credit for, was a legal payment, and that the administrators were entitled to a decree directing that money to be paid to them. A petition will be presented for the removal of Maybee and for the appointment of another guardian; and then the question as to tho liability of Maybee's sureties will be considered.
April 24, 1903
In the matter of the final judicial settlement of the estate of Hattie O. Maybee, the Surrogate has filed a decision settling the accounts of the administrators as filed and holding that the moneys paid to John J. Maybee from the estate of Burr Wilson deceased were legally in his hands as such guardian and never came in the possession of the administrators of Hattie O. Maybee as a part of her estate.9

Upon retiring from this partnership, he launched into the concession field at Island Park, foot of Owasco Lake, where he constructed the miniature railroad now in existence at that resort.
He also operated several refreshment stands at the lake, disposed of the railroad to John West, brother of Billy West, the former well known minstrel man.
Retiring from active business, Mr. Mabey purchased an estate near Milford, Conn., where he had resided for the past 20 years. He was a member of Auburn Lodge of Elks. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Grace B. Stupp Mabey; an aunt, Mrs. Lemuel Young of this city and by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mabey is the daughter of the late Frank J.
