She was loved by all who knew her, and a great deal of sympathy is felt for the bereaved parents, whose cup of sorrow it seems has been filled to the brim, for of six children only one boy of about 18 years remains. A large concourse of people gathered at the house on Monday, and followed the remains to their last resting place, in the Goshen cemetery. On Monday, while Mr. And Mrs. Mabee, were in town, making preparations for the funeral of their daughter, a tenant house on his farm in Middleton, took fire and was burned to the ground. FUNERAL OF C. H. MABEE--Tillsonburg, May 19 -- The funeral of Charles H. Mabee took place this afternoon from the residence on Bidwell St. to the town cemetery, and was one of the largest and most impressive ever witnessed in Tillsonburg -- an evidence of the high esteem in which the ex-mayor was held in the community. Mr. Mabee died as a result of injuries sustained during a racing matinee when the pacing horse he was driving stumbled and fell, throwing him to the track. The floral gifts were numerous coming from all over the province from business associates and friends. Friends and relatives were present from Detroit, Windsor, London, St. Thomas, Toronto, Hamilton and other places. The town council, town officials, high school board, board of trade, directors of the Tillsonburg and Dereham Agricultural Society, C Company, 168th Oxford Battalion, representatives of the Ford Motor Company, Detroit, and employees of the Mabee Garage, walked in a body in the procession. All places of business were closed from 2 to 3 o'clock by request of Mayor Denton. The pallbearers were as follows: Mayor Denton, M. G. Dean, W. Addison, Dr. McQueen, W. J. Wilkins, E. C. Jackson, Honorary pallbearers: Postmaster, W. McGuire, W. C. Brown, town clerk; A. E. Raynes, R. McKirvin. Col: 1.13
Burial* He was buried at Tillsonburg Cemetery, Tillsonburg, Oxford County, Ontario, Canada.14

oObit*16 May 1889  On 16 May 1889 the obituary of Elizabeth Ann Mabee read: Unexpected death – It falls to our lot this week to chronicle the unexpected death of Miss Libbie Mabee, daughter of Mr. G. H. Mabee, of Middleton, who was taken ill on Thursday night of last week, with an attack of inflamation of the bowels, and in spite of all that loving hands and medical skills could do, died at the residence of Mrs. Van Norman , on Saturday evening, she not being able, after taking ill to be removed to her home. At the residence of Mrs. H. VanNorman, Ridout St., Tillsonburg, on Saturday evening, the 4th inst., of peritonitis, Libbie Mabee, of Middleton [died], aged 19 years, 6 months and 20 days.6

And Mrs. Mabee, were in town, making preparations for the funeral of their daughter, a tenant house on his farm in Middleton, took fire and was burned to the ground. oObit  The obituary of Burton Lubon Maybee read: Mr. Burton L. Maybee moved to Tottenham from Trenton in about 1909 and took over the furniture and undertaking business from the estate of Mr. W. J. Verney.
His family consisted of his wife, Mary Knapp and three children, Margaret Honora E. [Percy Stanley], Fanny Helen [F. Clinton Craig] and William Howard [Mary Jane Stollery]. Another son Burton Maxwell [Isobel] was born in Tottenham. They lived for a year on Mill Street and then bought a home on Wilson St.
At that time, there were no automobiles an very few telephones. All traffic was by horse, and whenever a death occurred, someone had to drive to the undertaker's and then he was driven to the home. Funerals were held from the home, as there was no funeral parlor.
Automobiles appeared later. Mr. Maybee had about the first one in town.
Mr. Maybee served on the town council for sometime and he and his family were active in the work of the Methodist Church.
The family of Mr. Maybee was of Untied Empire Loyalist descent. They have records of their beginnings in France as early as 1518. From there, they went to Holland and then to New York. As they were Loyalists, they came to Canada in 1783 after the revolution.
Mr. Maybee's father William Henry Maybee lived on a farm near Trenton. His brother Milton Edgar, was M.M.P. for Northumberland for a number of years. They are buried as are Mr. & Mrs. B.L. Maybee, the country cemetery of Carrican Church near Brighton.
Mr. Maybee carried on business until 1917, when he became ill at the age of 49. His widow ran the business for a couple of years, when she sold it and moved her family to Toronto.
In 1971, the daughter Honora [Mrs. Peter Stanley] moved with their family to Tottleham. Their daughter, Eillen married Thomas Little and they have two sons, Blake and Curits. They live at 29 Alphonsus Court. They also had a son Ronald Percy Stanley.9
