He was born Dec. 8 1912, in Washington Twp., living most of his life in Springfield Twp., and moving to Pleasant Valley Road in 1961. He was a graduate of Ontario High School.
After 33 years with the Tappan Co., her retired in 1966 as plant superintendent He also was involved with farming.
He was a member of Ontario United Methodist Church; charter member of Ontario Lions Club; member of the first Tappan Quarter Century Club; Richland Co. Farm Bureau and F.H. Marquis Lodge No. 690 F& AM.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma Shrylock Mabee, to whom he was married for 51 years; a son Jerry R. of Mansfield and two grandchildren.
Two sisters and two brothers predeceased him in death.5

Michael Samsel of Olmsted, Ohio, and John and Grace Mabee of Ontario; two great-grandchildren, Jocelyn and Garrett Mabee of Ontario; a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Marion Hetler of Maryland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyt and Lottie Kurtz Shryock; husband, John F. Mabee; and two brothers, Walter and Russell Shryock.
Friends may call one hour prior to funeral services to be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ontario United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. James F. Winkler. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.6

He was 87. Bob was born in Shelby, Ohio on November 23, 1923 to Vere T. and Lila (Wiley) Mabee. He was graduated from Mansfield Senior High in 1941. He then enrolled in Ohio Northern University to study law. His education was interrupted in November 1942 when he enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. After three and a half years of service he returned to Ohio Northern and earned a degree in jurisprudence in November 1949. Before he was graduated he married Charlotte (Purdy) Mabee on May 28, 1949. He subsequently served in the Navel Reserve and retired as a lieutenant senior grade. One of his most precious memories was a trip on an Honor Flight with other Ohio veterans to visit the WWII Memorial at our nation's capital in May 2008. Early in his law career, Bob served as Mansfield's City Solicitor for three terms. In 1975 he was the head of the Richland County Bar Association. He practiced law in Mansfield for 53 years. Robert strived to serve his community with good intentions and good results. In 1957 the Mansfield Junior Chamber of Commerce named him "Young Man of the Year." In later years he belonged to the First Congregational Church where he held several leadership positions including the position of Moderator. Bob was a member of the Westbrook Country Club, the Hermit Club, Our Club, and was a 32nd degree mason. He was also a 50year member and past president of Mansfield Rotary Club. He was president of the local YMCA and served on the YMCA National Council. Bob also participated in the transformation of Community Chest into United Way in the early fifties and later served as its president. Bob was one of the original trustees for the Richland Community Service Center building which houses United Way and American Red Cross among other non-profit social service agencies. In April of 2004 a plaque honoring Bob was placed in the lobby of the Center to acknowledge his 15 years as president. A fellow trustee described Bob as having, "One of the most important but least recognized, thankless jobs of any volunteer position." Bob closely followed sports. He enjoyed playing golf, water skiing, and fishing on Lake Erie. A man of honor, he gave selflessly to his family, his community and his country. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; sons and a daughter-in-law Bruce T. & Julianna Mabee of Covington, LA and Robert W. Mabee of Mansfield; his daughter and son- in-law Pamela A. & Bernard Car of Norwalk; and children Benjamin Mabee, Christopher Mabee, Caitlin Mabee, Katherine Car, Carolyn Car, Brian Car and Bradley Car; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a brother Kenneth W. Mabee and a sister-in-law Doris Mabee. His funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. In First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road, with the Rev. David Root officiating. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Doris (Goodenough) Mabee, whom he married May 17, 1941; three sons and two daughters-in-law Douglas Mabee of Mansfield, Richard A. & Sharon Mabee of Greenwich and Stephen & Dianna Mabee of Ocala, FL; four grandchildren Stephen, Kenneth and Dyanna Mabee all of Ocala, FL and Jeanette Mabee of Greenwich; and a brother and sister-in-law Robert E. & Charlotte Mabee of Mansfield.
A memorial service will be held Thursday December 27, 2001 at 11 am in First Presbyterian Church, 399 South Trimble Road, Mansfield. The Rev. Dennis Allison will officiate. She helped organize and was a charter member of several groups in the early movement to aid the mentally retarded, and served on the Board of the Ohio Association for Retarded Children and Adults. Doris was always active in community and civic affairs.

On May 28, 1949, she married Robert E. Mabee and they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage until he passed away in 2011. They are now together again.
Charlotte worked to make a loving home for her husband and children. She was a wonderful hostess who enjoyed baking and getting together with friends.
She was a member of First Congregational Church in Mansfield where she was active with the Spire Ladies and served as deaconess. Charlotte was also a member of the Women's Club, Garden Club, Bridge Club, and the MedCentral Hospital Auxiliary.
She is survived by son and a daughter-in-law Bruce T. & Julianna Mabee of Covington, LA; daughter and son-in-law Pamela A. & Bernard Car of Norwalk; grandchildren Benjamin Mabee, Christopher Mabee, Caitlin Mabee, Katherine Car, Carolyn Car, Brian Car and Bradley Car; a sister Marty & Bob Bartlett of Cincinnati; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by a son Robert W. Mabee and a sister Jean McNeil.
Friends may call Saturday, January 21, 2017 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at First Congregational Church, 640 Millsboro Road in Mansfield. A funeral service honoring her life will begin at 12 noon with Rev. Bruce E. Haapalainen officiating. After the Mabee family receives friends, burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
