Anecdote* | George Mabee had a large cottage at Marshall's Bay on the Ottawa River, near Arnprior. He severed a small lot and Clara [Bingleman] built a cottage there in 1938. After Uncle George died Walter Turnbull purchased the large cottage, and later sold it to Leila and Bruce Green, Leila being a niece to Aunt Clara.. Clara was the daughter of George's half sister Lydia Stuart, and when she was eighteen Uncle George, who was a professor at a university in Ottawa, had her come live with them so she could take a secretarial course. She got a job in the parliament buildings and after a time became the private secretary to Walter Turnbull. Walter at one time was private secretary to Prime Minister McKenzie King, and later became Deputy Postmaster General of Canada, and Aunt Clara remained his private secretary.4 | |

She was a Hoover descendant by way of Jacob Hoover and Barbara Shank; Christian Hoover and Maria Baer; Barbara Elizabeth Hoover and David Knisely; Elizabeth Knisely and John Shively Bingleman; John Henry Bingleman and Lydia Jane Stuart. Her grandmother Elizabeth Knisley was an aunt of Larry Hamilton's great grandmother Elizabeth "Lizzie" Knisley.4 |

oObit* | 17 February 1933 | On 17 February 1933 at Oswego, New York, the obituary of Maude Poucher read: Mrs. Maude Searor, 53, wife of Miles L. Searor, 108 East Schuyler street, died at Oswego hospital at 12:30 o'clock Friday morning following an illness of several months Mrs. Searor was born in Oswego where she passed the greater part of her life. She was a communicant of St. Paul's church and was widely known by many friends. Surviving are her husband; three sons, Lawrence V. and John B. Searor, this city, and James Maybee of Buffalo; three daughters, Mrs. Charles Sawyer. Mrs. Samuel Lackey and Mrs. George Smith; one sister, Mrs. John Lewis, Oswego; one brother, William Poucher, of Syracuse, and several grandchildren. Funeral will be held Monday morning from Dain Brothers parlors at 9 o'clock and at St. Paul's church at 9:30 o'clock.8 |
