oObit*19 May 1902  On 19 May 1902 at Buffalo, New York, the obituary of Lovina Mabee read: When IV, was King of England, William McMichael was appointed physician to the throne. Mrs Lovina McMichael, widow of Jacob McMichael, died in Buffalo at the home of her son Dr James D. McMichael, at 168 Mariner street. She was 86 years old, and her once strong constitution was gradually worn away. Nearly all her sons are physicians, although her husband, who died about 15 years ago was a farmer near Waterford, Canada.
He husband, however, was a descendant from William McMichael, physician to George IV of England. This fact has been a family heritage, apparently one of sufficient force to create in the mionds of all the McMichaels a desire to make physicians of themselves. Here is a list of Mrs McMichael's children:

oObit*24 September 1897  On 24 September 1897 at Marshall, Michigan, the obituary of Sophia Mabee read: Sophia S. Mabee was born at Oxford Ontario in 1809 being the daughter of Rev. Simon Mabee Baptist minister of that place. She married to Philander S. King in 1829, eight children being the result of that union seven of whom are now living. She and her husband came to Marshall in 1855 where they resided until 1874 when they removed to Jackson. In 1878 on account of advanced age they gave up their home and came to his city to live with their son P.M. King. Her husband died the 7th of last November at 1pm and subsequently passed from earth the 7th of Sept. inst. at 4 pm to join the companion of her youth and mature age on the stunning shore, after a separation of only 10 months. Her last days were spent in reading and meditation a copy of the scriptures being seldom out of her hand. Her funeral was held at the Baptist church and was largely attend.8 
Anecdote* Philander S. King's nativity occurred in Seneca county, New York on May 26, 1807 and in 1829 he was married to Sophia Mabie, who was born in Canada. They came to Michigan in 1837 and located in Augusta, Kalamazoo county, where Philander S. King followed his trade of carpenter and joiner three years. Removing to Canada in 1844, he there took up farming, but in the fall of 1855 he returned to Michigan and located in Marshall, Calhoun county, where he followed painting and carpentering until 1870. In that year he took up his residence in Jackson, Michigan, remaining there until 1893, when he came to the home of his son in Marshall, Michigan, where he passed away in 1896. His wife survived him until the following year of 1897. The father was a Democrat in politics, a Mason in fraternal membership, and in religious faith was a Baptist.9

(Witness) AnecdoteJuly 1808 Piper's Corners: Joel Piper, a United Empire Loyalist from Massachusetts, came with Thomas Ingersoll's party of settlers to Oxford upon the Thames in 1793. He settled on lot 12, Conc 2, one mile south of the Old Stage Road on the east side of the North and South trail. The community which developed here was named after him. On Tremaine's map of 1857, there are Pipers on three of the four corners. The Mabee family occupied the southwest corner, Lot 13, Con 2, as they had ever since Simon Mabee, a fellow U.E.L. from Massachusetts, had arrived from Norfolk County, in the early 1800's. Mr. Simon Mabee played a vital role in the development of Piper's Corners. It was on the north east section of his property that the First Baptist Church in Oxford was established, and the Piper's School was built. Towards the south end of his farm, he constructed a dam and pond, and built a grist mill for the early farmers. The impressive stone house that he erected with the date 1808 inscribed above the doorway is still standing, and is now (late1970's) occupied by its present owners, Mr. and Mrs. Murray Budd. The Piper's Corners Baptist Church was the First Baptist church in Oxford County. In July 1808 Peter Teeple, Simon Mabee, Zachariah Burtch, Deborah Sales, Abigail Burtch and Elizabeth Scott met at the home of Peter Teeple to come under each other's watch-care. In 1809 they organized the Church. Meetings were held in the homes of the members. In Februry 1841, Elder Mabee offered 1 ½ acres on the northeast corner of his farm for a church and cemetery. It was located just south of the school with the cemetery at the rear of the church and school. This cemetery became neglected and a new owner of the farm allowed his cattle to pasture there. The markers, which were numerous, were broken and the farmer gathered them up and put them in the fence corner near the cemetery around 1890 to 1900. They remained there for some years, then these tombstones were made into a nice smooth marble walk from the house to the barn.
Simon Mabee built the Grist mill to serve the settlers. This mill continued in operation for many years. Mr. Ernest Mabee a great-grandson told Miss Hattie Mabee of Ingersoll, about its operation.

In 1834 the first log school was erected a mile south of Piper's Corners. The Second school was built in 1856 on land was obtained from Walter Bishop Mabee, the son of the pioneer Simon Mabee.4
