(Mentioned) oObit | 30 September 1938 | Alvira Mary Wells was mentioned in the obituary of of George William Mabie on 30 September 1938 at Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin; G.W. Mabie, 81, known as William Mabie, one of this city's most prominent Odd Fellows and also one of Evansville's oldest residents, died at 1 a.m. Friday in his home on Franklin street after five days' illness. Mr. Mabie had been gradually failing in health for some time, but had been around the city and his home until a few days ago. Tuesday was his 81st birthday but no celebration was held due to his illness. Mr. Mabie, who had been a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 25 years, holding all offices in the local organization in addition to serving as high priest of the camp for the past eight years, was born Sept. 27, 1857, at Footville, in which locality he grew to young manhood. He moved with his parents to the town of Center when 12 years old and attended the old Red Brick school, four and one-half miles east of Evansville, now known as the White Star school. On locating in Evansville at the age of 17, he was employed on the section by the Chicago and North Western railroad for several years, later accepting employment in the tobacco warehouse operated here at the time by Thomas Hudson and Elliott Barnard. On leaving their employ, he worked for nine years in the tobacco warehouse operation by George Rummel, also serving as baggageman at the North Western depot. Mr. Mabie entered the concession business when 19 years old and for 50 years during the summer vacation operated a lunch stand at state and county fairs and homecoming celebrations. He was one of the first to follow this line of business and when at first at the business a bakery proprietor told him he was crazy when he placed an order for 60 dozen buns. In addition to being a prominent Odd Fellow, Mr. Mabie was a charter member of the local Rebekah lodge and a member of the Methodist church. He married Frances Louise Smith in December, 1875, and seven children were born to them. Claude, the oldest son, died in infancy, and Frances, a daughter, died when 16. Mrs. Mabie died April 7, 1896. Thirty-seven years ago Mr. Mabie married Mrs. Vira Taplin. Survivors are: His widow; three daughters, Mrs. Elmer Taylor, Janesville, Mrs. Charles Peters, Madison, and Mrs. George Noyes, Evansville; two sons, George Mabie, Evansville, and Paul Mabie, St. Louis, Mo; 19 grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Methodist church, the Rev. Arthur Edwards, pastor, officiating. The Rebekah lodge will attend in a body and I.O.O.F. burial services will be held at the grave in Maple Hill cemetery. The body is at the Allen funeral home where friends may call.11 |

Mabie, 83, died at 2 a.m. Sunday in her home, 246 Franklin street, following a three day illness. She was formerly Alvira Wells, daughter of the Nelson and Sarah Kathryn Greatsinger-Wells, former Evansville residents and was born in Sextonville, Richland County. When a small child she moved with her family to Wichita, Kan., where she grew up and married Fred Taplin. She was the mother of one son, Carl Taplin. When her son was small, she was left a widow and returned to Evansville with him. In 1902 she was married to William Mabie, who died in September, 1938, Her only son, Carl, died in 1935. Her grandson, Earl Taplin was killed in an airplane crash near Janesville Sept. 17, 1904. During the past two winters Mrs. Mabie has been cared for at a nursing home in Janesville. She is survived by five grandchildren, Lloyd Taplin, Evansville, AOM. 2/c Clarence Taplin, stationed at Corpus Christi, Tex., Pvt. Thomas Taplin in the armed forces in Germany, and the Misses Frances Taplin and Izma Taplin, Evansville, two great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. The funeral was held in the Allen funeral home at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Grant V. Clark of the Congregational church officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery. Mrs. C. W. Hazlett played the chapel music. The pall bearers were A. J. Scoville, J. E. Waller, Roy Greatsinger and Lyle Wells.5 |

Mabie died at his residence on Butler Hill, near South Valley, Sunday morning at 5 o'clock, August 21st, aged seventy-nine years. Mr Mabie had been in failing health for some time but had been confined to his bed only a short time. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J. Bassett. Interment in South Valley cemetery. Mr Mabie is survived by his wife and three sons, Oscar of Schenectady; Elmer of South Valley; and Gifford of Worcester; and two daughters, Mrs Eva Smith of South Valley, Mrs Maud Thompson of Butler Hill; also grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. – Our South Valley Reporter.11 |

Mabie died at 8:10 o'clock yesterday morning, at his home, 30 Third street, after a stroke of apoplexy Thursday. Mr. Mabie was born at South Valley, N. Y., May 15, 1860. and graduated from Lowell Business college. After being employed in several places in this state, he came to this city about 20 years ago and had since been employed at the General Electric works as inspector of the fire department. He was married twice, his first wife being Addie Persons of Worcester. N. Y. In-1909 he married. Anna Welch of Paterson, N. J., who survives him. Mr. Mabie was a member of Schenevus Valley lodge of Masons. He is survived by his widow, three sons. Arba, DeForest and Dorr, and one daughter. Eva of Schenectady; his mother. Mrs. Louise Mabie, and two brothers and two sisters, Elmer and Gifford and Maude and Eva of South Valley. There will be a brief service at the house' at 2 o'clock this afternoon, after which the body will be taken to South Valley, where the funeral will take place to-morrow, with burial in the South Valley cemetery.12 |

She is. survived by her daughter, Mrs.. Eva Smith, of Cooperstown and Mrs. Homer Thompson of South Valley and her sons. Elmer Mabie, of South Valley.and. Gifford of Worcester together with numerous grandchildren and other relatives to mourn their loss. Services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, Interment in .South Union cemetery.15 |

Mabie died at his residence on Butler Hill, near South Valley, Sunday morning at 5 o'clock, August 21st, aged seventy-nine years. Mr Mabie had been in failing health for some time but had been confined to his bed only a short time. The funeral services were held at the Christian Church, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. J. Bassett. Interment in South Valley cemetery. Mr Mabie is survived by his wife and three sons, Oscar of Schenectady; Elmer of South Valley; and Gifford of Worcester; and two daughters, Mrs Eva Smith of South Valley, Mrs Maud Thompson of Butler Hill; also grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. – Our South Valley Reporter.8 |

Mabie died at 8:10 o'clock yesterday morning, at his home, 30 Third street, after a stroke of apoplexy Thursday. Mr. Mabie was born at South Valley, N. Y., May 15, 1860. and graduated from Lowell Business college. After being employed in several places in this state, he came to this city about 20 years ago and had since been employed at the General Electric works as inspector of the fire department. He was married twice, his first wife being Addie Persons of Worcester. N. Y. In-1909 he married. Anna Welch of Paterson, N. J., who survives him. Mr. Mabie was a member of Schenevus Valley lodge of Masons. He is survived by his widow, three sons. Arba, DeForest and Dorr, and one daughter. Eva of Schenectady; his mother. Mrs. Louise Mabie, and two brothers and two sisters, Elmer and Gifford and Maude and Eva of South Valley. There will be a brief service at the house' at 2 o'clock this afternoon, after which the body will be taken to South Valley, where the funeral will take place to-morrow, with burial in the South Valley cemetery.9 |

She was in her ninety-first year and .had enjoyed good health for one of her age. She was beloved by all who knew her. She was of a sweet disposition and will be missed in the family circle. She is. survived by her daughter, Mrs.. Eva Smith, of Cooperstown and Mrs. Homer Thompson of South Valley and her sons. Elmer Mabie, of South Valley.and. Gifford of Worcester together with numerous grandchildren and other relatives to mourn their loss. Services were held at the home Tuesday afternoon, Interment in .South Union cemetery.10 |
(Witness) oObit | 25 March 1932 | Eva Louise Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Ella Maude Mabie on 25 March 1932 at Cooperstown, New York; The many friends of Mrs. Maude Thompson, wife of Supervisor Homer Thompson, were shocked and saddened to hear of her passing early Wednesday morning, March 2nd, at her home at Butlers Corners of heart trouble. She had been in failing health for some time past and confined to her bed most of the time since Thanksgiving. In December she was taken on the advice of her physician to the M. L B . Hospital at Cooperstown where she remained three weeks under observation. From there she went to the home of her sister, Mrs. William Smith at Cooperstown where she remained for two week returning to her home here the latter part of January. She was loved by all who knew her, an earnest Christian, a devoted wife and mother and a kind and loving neighbor always ready to help in time of need. Mrs. Thompson was the youngest of six children born to Arba Oscar and Louise (Tillapaugh) Mabie and was in her fifty-seventh year. (She has been a resident of this community all her life with the exception of a year or two when she resided, at Worcester. In December, 1900, she was united in marriage to Homer Thompson The funeral services were held Friday afternoon. March 4th, at 1:30 o'clock, at the house and at 2 p. m. from the M. P . church of which she was a member, conducted by the Rev. George S. Martin of South Butler, a former pastor, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Fuller of Paines Hollow and the Rev. Mr. Robinson of Maryland. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Clyde at home and Drayton of this place; one sister, Mrs. William Smith of Cooperstown; two brothers, Elmer Mabie of South Valley and Gifford Mabie of Worcester; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. The many and beautiful floral pieces showed the esteem in which she was held. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family. Relatives and friends from Worcester, Oneonta, Carlisle, Cherry Valley, Pleasant Brook, Westford, Schenevus, Maryland, Roseboom, Amsterdam, Binghamton, Schenectady and Dorloo attended the funeral.11 |
(Witness) oObit | 20 January 1933 | Eva Louise Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Gifford Oscar Mabie on 20 January 1933 at Cooperstown, New York; Gifford Mabie, a well known farmer and highly respected resident, passed away, at his home on West Hill near Worcester, Thursday afternoon of last week, following a long illness from heart-trouble. The deceased was born at South Valley, October 31, 1865, a son of Arba and Louise (Tillapaugh) Mabie He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Alice Rhodes of Worcester, who died August 11, 1902. On December 20th he married Mrs. Clara Kniffen, whose death occurred February 10, 1931. Surviving arc one daughter, Mrs. Fred Waid, by his first marriage; a sister, Mrs. William Smith of Cooperstown; and a brother, Elmer Mabie of South Valley; and two granddaughters. Mr. Mabie was an attendant of the Baptist church and a charter member of the Worcester Grange. Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. L. C. Jones, pastor of the Baptist church officiated and burial was made in Maple Grove cemetery. Mr. Mabie had many friends who will regret to learn of ,his death, and who will extend sympathy to the family.12 |

Mr. Mabie was born on the farm where he resided, June 6, 1864, a son bi Arba O, Mabie and Louise (Tillapaugh) Mabie. He is survived by his widow, the former Miss Minnie Lovejoy, whom he married in 1888; a sister, Mrs. William Smith, Cooperstown; three children, Herbert, residing at home; Lee and Miss Louise Tillapaugh, South Valley. Funeral services Wednesday from the South Valley Christian church, preceded by a prayer service from the residence at 1:30, the Rev. William Knorr, pastor of the church, officiating.13 |
(Witness) oObit | 25 April 1947 | Eva Louise Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of William Smith on 25 April 1947 at Cooperstown, New York; The death of William Smith, aged seventy-six, occurred at his home in Fly Creek on Wednesday afternoon. He had been in poor health for over a year. Born in Roxburyshire, Scotland on April 8, 1871, Mr. Smith was the son of James and, Alice (Dickson) Smith. He came to the United States while a young man and in December, 1909, married Eva Mabie, who survives him. Other survivors are a brother, John Smith of Fly Creek and a niece, Miss Alice Smith of Huntington, L. I. He was a member of the Fly Creek Methodist church. For a number of years he was caretaker of Glimmerglen Farm operated by: W. T. Hyde. Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Tillapaugh Funeral home with services conducted by the Rev. Clarence L. Andrews, pastor of the Methodist churches in Cooperstown and Fly Creek. Burial will be in the Fly Creek cemetery.14 |

(Witness) oObit | 25 March 1932 | Elmer Arba Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Ella Maude Mabie on 25 March 1932 at Cooperstown, New York; The many friends of Mrs. Maude Thompson, wife of Supervisor Homer Thompson, were shocked and saddened to hear of her passing early Wednesday morning, March 2nd, at her home at Butlers Corners of heart trouble. She had been in failing health for some time past and confined to her bed most of the time since Thanksgiving. In December she was taken on the advice of her physician to the M. L B . Hospital at Cooperstown where she remained three weeks under observation. From there she went to the home of her sister, Mrs. William Smith at Cooperstown where she remained for two week returning to her home here the latter part of January. She was loved by all who knew her, an earnest Christian, a devoted wife and mother and a kind and loving neighbor always ready to help in time of need. Mrs. Thompson was the youngest of six children born to Arba Oscar and Louise (Tillapaugh) Mabie and was in her fifty-seventh year. (She has been a resident of this community all her life with the exception of a year or two when she resided, at Worcester. In December, 1900, she was united in marriage to Homer Thompson The funeral services were held Friday afternoon. March 4th, at 1:30 o'clock, at the house and at 2 p. m. from the M. P . church of which she was a member, conducted by the Rev. George S. Martin of South Butler, a former pastor, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Fuller of Paines Hollow and the Rev. Mr. Robinson of Maryland. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Clyde at home and Drayton of this place; one sister, Mrs. William Smith of Cooperstown; two brothers, Elmer Mabie of South Valley and Gifford Mabie of Worcester; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. The many and beautiful floral pieces showed the esteem in which she was held. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family. Relatives and friends from Worcester, Oneonta, Carlisle, Cherry Valley, Pleasant Brook, Westford, Schenevus, Maryland, Roseboom, Amsterdam, Binghamton, Schenectady and Dorloo attended the funeral.17 |

The deceased was born at South Valley, October 31, 1865, a son of Arba and Louise (Tillapaugh) Mabie He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Alice Rhodes of Worcester, who died August 11, 1902. On December 20th he married Mrs. Clara Kniffen, whose death occurred February 10, 1931. Surviving arc one daughter, Mrs. Fred Waid, by his first marriage; a sister, Mrs. William Smith of Cooperstown; and a brother, Elmer Mabie of South Valley; and two granddaughters. Mr. Mabie was an attendant of the Baptist church and a charter member of the Worcester Grange. Funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. L. C. Jones, pastor of the Baptist church officiated and burial was made in Maple Grove cemetery. Mr. Mabie had many friends who will regret to learn of ,his death, and who will extend sympathy to the family.18 |

Mabie died at 8:10 o'clock yesterday morning, at his home, 30 Third street, after a stroke of apoplexy Thursday. Mr. Mabie was born at South Valley, N. Y., May 15, 1860. and graduated from Lowell Business college. After being employed in several places in this state, he came to this city about 20 years ago and had since been employed at the General Electric works as inspector of the fire department. He was married twice, his first wife being Addie Persons of Worcester. N. Y. In-1909 he married. Anna Welch of Paterson, N. J., who survives him. Mr. Mabie was a member of Schenevus Valley lodge of Masons. He is survived by his widow, three sons. Arba, DeForest and Dorr, and one daughter. Eva of Schenectady; his mother. Mrs. Louise Mabie, and two brothers and two sisters, Elmer and Gifford and Maude and Eva of South Valley. There will be a brief service at the house' at 2 o'clock this afternoon, after which the body will be taken to South Valley, where the funeral will take place to-morrow, with burial in the South Valley cemetery.10 |

Y., May 15, 1860. and graduated from Lowell Business college. After being employed in several places in this state, he came to this city about 20 years ago and had since been employed at the General Electric works as inspector of the fire department. He was married twice, his first wife being Addie Persons of Worcester. N. Y. In-1909 he married. Anna Welch of Paterson, N. J., who survives him. Mr. Mabie was a member of Schenevus Valley lodge of Masons. He is survived by his widow, three sons. Arba, DeForest and Dorr, and one daughter. Eva of Schenectady; his mother. Mrs. Louise Mabie, and two brothers and two sisters, Elmer and Gifford and Maude and Eva of South Valley. There will be a brief service at the house' at 2 o'clock this afternoon, after which the body will be taken to South Valley, where the funeral will take place to-morrow, with burial in the South Valley cemetery.6 |

She was in her ninety-first year and .had enjoyed good health for one of her age. She was beloved by all who knew her. She was of a sweet disposition and will be missed in the family circle. oObit | 25 March 1932 | On 25 March 1932 at Cooperstown, New York, the obituary of Ella Maude Mabie read: The many friends of Mrs. Maude Thompson, wife of Supervisor Homer Thompson, were shocked and saddened to hear of her passing early Wednesday morning, March 2nd, at her home at Butlers Corners of heart trouble. She had been in failing health for some time past and confined to her bed most of the time since Thanksgiving. In December she was taken on the advice of her physician to the M. L B . Hospital at Cooperstown where she remained three weeks under observation. From there she went to the home of her sister, Mrs. William Smith at Cooperstown where she remained for two week returning to her home here the latter part of January. She was loved by all who knew her, an earnest Christian, a devoted wife and mother and a kind and loving neighbor always ready to help in time of need. Mrs. Thompson was the youngest of six children born to Arba Oscar and Louise (Tillapaugh) Mabie and was in her fifty-seventh year. (She has been a resident of this community all her life with the exception of a year or two when she resided, at Worcester. In December, 1900, she was united in marriage to Homer Thompson The funeral services were held Friday afternoon. March 4th, at 1:30 o'clock, at the house and at 2 p. m. from the M. P . church of which she was a member, conducted by the Rev. George S. Martin of South Butler, a former pastor, assisted by the Rev. Mr. Fuller of Paines Hollow and the Rev. Mr. Robinson of Maryland. She is survived by her husband and two sons, Clyde at home and Drayton of this place; one sister, Mrs. William Smith of Cooperstown; two brothers, Elmer Mabie of South Valley and Gifford Mabie of Worcester; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. The many and beautiful floral pieces showed the esteem in which she was held. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family. Relatives and friends from Worcester, Oneonta, Carlisle, Cherry Valley, Pleasant Brook, Westford, Schenevus, Maryland, Roseboom, Amsterdam, Binghamton, Schenectady and Dorloo attended the funeral.11 |

Mabie died at 8:10 o'clock yesterday morning, at his home, 30 Third street, after a stroke of apoplexy Thursday. Mr. Mabie was born at South Valley, N. Y., May 15, 1860. and graduated from Lowell Business college. After being employed in several places in this state, he came to this city about 20 years ago and had since been employed at the General Electric works as inspector of the fire department. He was married twice, his first wife being Addie Persons of Worcester. N. Y. In-1909 he married. Anna Welch of Paterson, N. J., who survives him. Mr. Mabie was a member of Schenevus Valley lodge of Masons. He is survived by his widow, three sons. Arba, DeForest and Dorr, and one daughter. Eva of Schenectady; his mother. Mrs. Louise Mabie, and two brothers and two sisters, Elmer and Gifford and Maude and Eva of South Valley. There will be a brief service at the house' at 2 o'clock this afternoon, after which the body will be taken to South Valley, where the funeral will take place to-morrow, with burial in the South Valley cemetery.7 |

Mabie, 83, of Worcester, a former resident of Schenectady, died unexpectedly at Glenridge Hospital on Saturday. Born in the Town of Roseboom, Mr Mabie had lived in Schenectady many years. He was employed at the General Electric Co. As a machinist, retiring many years ago. Mr Mabie was a member od the Worcester United Methodist Church. His wife was the late Flora Kniffen Mabie. Survivors include seven sons, Gifford of Altamont, DeForest of Worcester, Earl of Hendersonville, Tenn, Robert of Panama City, Fla, Gerald of Garden Grove, Calif, Tech Sgt William of Columbus, Ohio, and J. Donald Mabie of Manlius; five daughters, Mrs John McCardle of Schenectady, Ruth Mabie of Albany, Mrs Anita Schmiedel of Worcester, Mrs Elwin Hoke of Highland and Mrs James Coon of Sharon Springs; a brother, Door Mabie of Schenectady. Thirty six grandchildren and fifteen grandchildren also survive.13 |

Mabie Plue, 40, of 1 Tryon Drive, Glenville, will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Griswold Funeral Home. Mrs. Plue died Monday in Ellis Hospital after a sudden illness. Born in Schenectady, Mrs. Plue was employed by St. Regis Paper Co. in Scotia. She was a member of the East Glenville Baseball Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband, David F. Plue; a daughter, Mrs. Roy Rowledge of Scotia; four sons, Bern. (Witness) oObit | 7 July 1913 | Anna Walsh was mentioned in the obituary of Oscar D. Mabie on 7 July 1913 at Schenectady, New York; Oscar-D. Mabie died at 8:10 o'clock yesterday morning, at his home, 30 Third street, after a stroke of apoplexy Thursday. Mr. Mabie was born at South Valley, N. Y., May 15, 1860. and graduated from Lowell Business college. After being employed in several places in this state, he came to this city about 20 years ago and had since been employed at the General Electric works as inspector of the fire department. He was married twice, his first wife being Addie Persons of Worcester. N. Y. In-1909 he married. Anna Welch of Paterson, N. J., who survives him. Mr. Mabie was a member of Schenevus Valley lodge of Masons. He is survived by his widow, three sons. Arba, DeForest and Dorr, and one daughter. Eva of Schenectady; his mother. Mrs. Louise Mabie, and two brothers and two sisters, Elmer and Gifford and Maude and Eva of South Valley. There will be a brief service at the house' at 2 o'clock this afternoon, after which the body will be taken to South Valley, where the funeral will take place to-morrow, with burial in the South Valley cemetery.3 |

(Witness) oObit | 22 June 1970 | Ruth Louise Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Arba Earl Mabie on 22 June 1970 at Schenectady, New York; Arba E. Mabie, 83, of Worcester, a former resident of Schenectady, died unexpectedly at Glenridge Hospital on Saturday. Born in the Town of Roseboom, Mr Mabie had lived in Schenectady many years. He was employed at the General Electric Co. As a machinist, retiring many years ago. Mr Mabie was a member od the Worcester United Methodist Church. His wife was the late Flora Kniffen Mabie. Survivors include seven sons, Gifford of Altamont, DeForest of Worcester, Earl of Hendersonville, Tenn, Robert of Panama City, Fla, Gerald of Garden Grove, Calif, Tech Sgt William of Columbus, Ohio, and J. Donald Mabie of Manlius; five daughters, Mrs John McCardle of Schenectady, Ruth Mabie of Albany, Mrs Anita Schmiedel of Worcester, Mrs Elwin Hoke of Highland and Mrs James Coon of Sharon Springs; a brother, Door Mabie of Schenectady. Thirty six grandchildren and fifteen grandchildren also survive.9 |
