The Rev. Eugene Kellogg officiated. Mrs. Kellogg was pianist. Soloist was Mrs. Herbert Mabie, mother of the groom, who sang "I Love You Truly" and "O, Promise Me." The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon May, South Valley. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Mabie, Westford, RD. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a street length dress of brocaded taffeta. The lace bodice featured a scalloped neckline with long pointed sleeves. Her shoulder length veil was fastened to a white chiffon bow headpiece. Miss Deborah Phillips was maid of honor. She wore an orchid brocaded taffeta street length dress with a lace bolero and a net whimsie to match. They both carried a cascade of white carnations. The bridesmaids wore identical dresses of brocaded taffeta styled like the maid of honor with matching whimsies. The Misses Linda and Margaret Mabie, sisters of the groom wore yellow and blue respectively. Miss Linda May, sister of the bride wore green. Each wore a white carnation corsage. Miss Ruth Ellen, sister of the bride was flower girl and she wore pink taffeta. David Webster, cousin of the groom was ring bearer. Frank Brodie, cousin of the groom was best man. Ushers were Dean Wikoff, Cherry Valley, Willis Thompson and Richard Hansen. Open,House was held following the ceremony at the home of the bride's parents attended Cherry Valley Central School. Mr. Mabie is employed at Canajoharie. They will be at home to their friends in their new home at Butlers Corner.3

oObit*7 December 2004  On 7 December 2004 at Oneonta, New York, the obituary of Linda Ruth Mabie read: Linda R. Mabie, 56, passed away suddenly Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown. She was born Sept. 27, 1948, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Herbert J. and Mildred A. Mabie. A lifelong area resident, she worked as a nurse's aide at Bassett Healthcare. She was a member of the First Christian Church of South Valley. Survivors include her father, Herbert J. Mabie; a sister, Margaret Mabie; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Marsha Mabie and Art and Carol Mabie; lots of nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her mother, Mildred Mabie. Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Terence Brant officiating. Burial will follow in the South Valley Cemetery,
South Valley. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. to noon, preceding the funeral. Contributions in Linda's memory may be made to the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad or the First Christian Church of South Valley. Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.5

oObit*14 July 2012  On 14 July 2012 at Oneonta, New York, the obituary of Debra Rae Hoke read: Debra Rae (Hoke) Brodie was called home to Heaven to walk the golden streets of glory with her Savior and Lord after a long illness. She was 61 years of age, living in South Valley most of her life. She left this Earth on July 12, 2012, at home with her family by her side.
She was born in Cooperstown, on Jan. 25, 1951, to Donald S. and Mary E. (Barnes) Hoke. She was married to her childhood sweetheart Charles R. Brodie on June 6, 1970, at the First Christian Church in South Valley.
She was a homemaker and loved children. She raised six children, did foster care, was well-known for babysitting, and had many children through the Fresh Air Fund out of New York City. She was the Roseboom town clerk for several years and worked for J.J. Newberry Co. two different times.
She graduated from Cherry Valley Central School with honors in the Class of 1969. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Schenevus and played the piano. She was very musical and played clarinet in the Cooperstown Community band for many years. Her musical ability was inherited by each of her children, each having their own instrument and excellent playing ability.
She was a home-school mom, home-schooling her four youngest children. She loved and cherished her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Charles Brodie of South Valley; five children, Jeremy (Malinda) Brodie of Mount Vision, Adam (Susan) Brodie of South Valley, Rachel (Jonathan) Harvey of Brooklyn, Md., Jaime ( Daniel) Cooper of South Valley and Anthony Brodie of Ohio; grandchildren, Jerred and Jaidon Brodie, Karis Brodie, Cayden and Alexis Cooper and Gabriel Harvey; a brother Dennis (Joan) Hoke of Pleasant Brook; three sisters, Phyllis (Douglas) VanDewerker of Westford, Jean Winkler of Oneonta, Victoria (Chip) Myers of South Valley; father-in-law, Elliott Brodie of South Valley; brothers-in-law, Frank Brodie of South Valley and Elliott (Linda) Brodie of Summerfield, Fla; sisters-in-law: Marylou (David) Bach of Meadville, Pa., Carol Brodie of South Valley, Barbara (Mickey) Kineke of Mohawk and Donna Lou (Steven) Hatch of McGraw; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Brandy Ann Brodie; her parents, Donald S. and Mary E. Hoke; and her mother-in-law Luella E. Brodie.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Norman Culver of the First Baptist Church Schenevus and the Rev. Keith VanDewerker officiating. Burial will follow in South Valley Cemetery.3
