George Mabey

M, #15337, b. 1756, d. 4 March 1847
Anecdote* According to a couple of descendants of George Mabey, he was born in England and was a British soldier during the Revolution, removing to PEI after the war.
I have confirmed parts of that story. I did find George on a muster list as a British soldier and I found proof of his going to PEI after the war with other British soldiers.
BUT, I also found that he was stationed during the war on Long Island in the same town as Jacob Mabie and his sons William, Elias and Henry had taken refuge. AND we know that Jacob had another son, Solomon, who served in the British navy.
So, not ever believing in coincidence, I have always been suspicious that the reason Jacob and his younger sons took refuge on Long Island was that he had another son stationed there. In other words, I think its possible that George Mabey was actually a son of Jacob.
Its a long shot, but I just thought I'd take this opportunity to keep you informed. Perhaps DNA testing would have some value.
