(Witness) oObit Clara May Esse was mentioned in the obituary of Edmond Robbins Mabie; Died: E.R. Mabie October 21, 1899, age 61 years. Mr. Mabie was born near Hamlin, New York, where he lived until grown. He enlisted as a private with the New York volunteers, serving during the war of the rebellion. Coming to Kansas about 1867 he settled on the farm where his death occurred. He was married to Miss Clara Esse in the spring of 1879, who with their children still survive. Death resulted from a complication of lung troubles, though only sick for a few weeks had been ailing for a number of years. Mr. Mabie was a man well liked by all who knew him, sober, industrious, devoted to his family, and living as he died, at peace with all his neighbors. There were present at the death bed, besides the family, his brother Theodore of Rockford, Ill., his sister Theresa arriving the next day. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. S. M. Irwin Saturday morning at the Presbyterian church. The remains were laid away in the Geneva cemetery.9

oObit*1 September 1938  On 1 September 1938 at Iola, Kansas, the obituary of Clara May Esse read: Mrs Clara Mabie, passed away at the farm of her son Frank near Geneva yesterday afternoon in the same community where she was born 75 years ago.
She had been a resident of the Geneva Community continuously since her birth and was a member of a well known pioneer family of that locality.
Mrs Mabie was the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs George Esse, who settled in the community a few years before Mrs Mabie was born.
She was a widow of E. R. Mabie to whom she was married in 1880. Mr Mabie a Civil war veteran died in 1889...
Among survivors are six children, Mrs Tom Sherward, Iola, Mrs O. B. Miller, Alva, Okla., H. R. Mabie, Yates Center, and George E Mabie. Frank C Mabie, and Mrs Ed Fitzpatrick, all of Geneva. Fourteen grandchildren, also are amoung the survivors.19
