Crary, Esq, of this village passed away Wednesday morning after a very critical illness. Mrs. Crary who was thirty-three years of age was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Maybee of Mexico, N.Y. She was a young woman of the character and her going is a sad blow to her family and deeply regretted by many friends. She is survived by her husband, an infant daughter Evelyn, her parents and two sisters and one brother, the latter Mrs Bessie Halsey, Miss Ethel Maybee and Joseph Maybee, Jr. of Mexico, NY. Mrs. Crary was an active worker in Canton Rebekah and Empire Chapter O.E.S. Her funeral took place from the First Presbyterian Church of which she was a member, Friday at 2 pm. The Rev. F. W. Crary was called to Mexico, NY Saturday by the critical illness of his little daughter, aged five years and a few months. The little girl lingered till Monday morning when death came. The child was suffering from sugar diabetes, a malady that usually proves fatal in a young child. The funeral will occur Wednesday from the home of the little girl's grandmother at Mexico where she made her home. Mr. Crary returned to Canton Monday but will return to attend the funeral.6 |

Maybie, 36, a second lieutenant and veteran of theWorld War, died in the veterans branch of the Kings Park state hospital, Long Island, on Saturday, December 17, 1932, following an illness of several months. Mr. Maybie was born in the village of Hailesboro, St. Lawrence County, N. Y., son of Joseph H. Maybie and Ellen Streeter Maybie. Besides his widow, Rosetta Simmons Maybie, he leaves one son, Joseph H. Maybie Jr., one daughter Sheila; two sisters, Mrs. Harold Halsey and Mrs. Ira Austin, both of Mexico. On September 23, 1917, Mr. Maybie entered the United States service, being connected with the 32nd division of the 128th infantry. In May 1918, he was transferred to France where he participated in several large battles, returning to the United States in May 1919. He was the only commissioned officer from Mexico to return to the United States. Two other officers, Donald Stone and Gurley Davis, from this village were killed in action. Last rites were held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Newton Simmons, Hungers Corners on Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock. Rev. B. L. Waters, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal church of Mexico officiated. Interment was made in Willis cemetery. Committal services were in charge of Stone-Davis Post, American Legion. The Legion squad was present and fired a salute. Taps were sounded. The bearers were Harry E. Fish, Wesley Wallace, Leon Bailey, George Hanson, all ex-service men.9 |

In May 1918, he was transferred to France where he participated in several large battles, returning to the United States in May 1919. He was the only commissioned officer from Mexico to return to the United States. Two other officers, Donald Stone and Gurley Davis, from this village were killed in action.
