oObit3 June 1910  On 3 June 1910 at Carmel, New York, the obituary of Eliza Ann Mabie read: This afternoon Mrs. Eliza Ann Hopkins is being buried from the Baptist church. She was a woman of character and had a kindly spirit. She took a dep interest in the religious work of the Baptist church f which she had been a member many years. She also was a leader in the W. C. T. U. movement and faithful in, every duty of
life.
Mrs. Hopkins was born in Patterson in 1823 and died on Tuesday morning of old age—86 years, 6 months and 6 days. Her parents were Samuel and Ruth Bolt Mabie and no children survive her. Her husband, Ira Hopkins, has been dead many years. The burial will be made in the family plot in the Kelley Cemetery. The pall bearers are D. C. Hughson, C. R. Barrett, S. T. Barrett, Freeman Fisher. George E. Anderson and W. C. Carver. Rev.-. A. .P. Fox officiated and Edward Ganong had charge of the funeral.4

Mrs. Reynolds died Sunday at her home after an illness of two years. Born in Glenville, she had lived in this area all of her life. She was a member of the Reformed church.
Surviving are her husband, David H. Reynolds; two daughters, Mrs Charles Reynolds of Schenectady and Mrs. William Miller of Scotia; four sons, Herman and Harold Reynolds of Scotia and David L. and W. Nicholas Reynolds of Schenectady; a brother, Vedder Mabee of
Rome, NY; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.6

The funeral for David H. Reynolds, 87. of 18 Sacandaga road, Scotia, will be held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. from the Mabee and Berning funeral home, Scotia. The funeral home will be open tonight after 7 o'clock. Burial will be in the Dutch Reformed cemetery, Scotia. Rev. Raymond Rogers, pastor of Scotia Baptist Church, will officiate.
Reynolds, who died Sunday at his home after an illness of six months, was born in the Town of Glenville, and had lived all of his life in this area.
He was employed as night watchman for J. C. Dearstine Lumber Co. for 30 years. Prior to that he was air-brake inspector in Rotterdam Junction for the Boston & Maine railroad for 32 years.
Reynolds was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and of Scotia Baptist Church.
Survivors are his wife [she was deceased], Mrs. Mary L. Mabee Reynolds; six children, Mrs. William Miller, Herman E. and Harold A. Reynolds, all of Scotia, and Mrs. Charles Reynolds, David L. and William Nicklas Reynolds, all of Schenectady; and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Butler, Rotterdam Junction and Mrs. Matthew Snowden, Amsterdam road. — page 19.6

She had been in poor health for sometime. Mrs. Mabie was ths daughter of Samuel Colwell and Char1otte Wright, and was born in Dutchess county eighty-two years ago. Her husband was Levi J. Mabie, who died in 1883. Mr. and Mrs. Mabie were formerly residents of Cold Spring.15

Dr. Mabie's health had been falling since a year ago when, while filing a professional engagement in Philadelphia he had an attack of acute indigestion. He was in a Philadelphia hospital for three weeks and then returned home. His health .continued to be poor, bat improved enough over the rammer to enable him to go to his office about two months ago.
Funeral services will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday, morning in the Calvary Episcopal . Church at Summit. Bishop Edward S. Lines of the Diocese of Newark, the Rev. Dr. Walker Gwynne, rector emeritus .of Calvary Church, and the Rev. Waiter O. Kinsolvlng. rector of the church, will conduct them.
Dr. Mabie, editor, author and literary expert, was born In Cold Spring, N. Y., December 13. 1846. He was graduated from Williams College in 1867, and from Columbia University with, the degree of LL B. in 1869.
For a time he practiced law, and in 1879 he joined the staff of the Outlook. Since then he served continuously on that publication. In 1884 he became associate editor, a post which he held without interruption until his death. At various times he had charge of the literary departments of other publications, including the Ladies Howe Journal
He wrote hundreds of essays upon a wide range of subjects. His first book was brought out thirty-four years ago and since then he had written many volumes, besides many essays. for magazines. which were never gathered into book form.

"Parables of Life." "Backgrounds- of Literature." "Myths Every Child Should Know." "Fairy Tales Every Child 8hould Know." "The Great Word." "Heroes Every Child Should Know." "Legends Every Child Should Know." "Christmas To-day." "Introductions to Notable Poems." "American Idols. Character and Life." "Japan. To-day and To-morrow."
In the fall of 1913 Dr. Mabie was commissioned by the Carnegie Foundation for International Peace to spend a year in Japan delivering lectures to develop in Japan a knowledge of American character and sympathy with our ideals.
Dr Mabie received several honorary degrees from colleges and universities. Among them are an L. H. D. from Williams College, received in 1890; LL D. from Union College. 1899; from Western Reserve in 1904, and from Washington and Lee College, 1906. He was a trustee of Williams College, a member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters and president of the New York
Kindergarten Association.
In 1876 be married Miss Jeanette Trivett of Poughkeepsie. She survives him. and also one daughter. Miss Helen Mabie. He belonged to the Century and Authors clubs and the Huguenot Society.
Col. Roosevelt was shocked last night to hear of Dr. Mabie's death.
"I am greatly concerned" he said. "I was devoted to Dr. Mabie. He was one of the sweetest tempered and highest minded men I ever met. It was a constant pleasure for me to be associated with him."20 
Burial* He and Jeanette Trivett were buried at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Sleepy Hollow, Westchester County, New York. Inscription "Hamilton Wright Mabie; Dec. 13, 1845 - Dec. 31, 1916; Jeanette Trivett Mabie; Aug. 15, 1853 - Nov. 23, 1936; Lorraine Trivett Mabie; Nov 12, 1877 - Sept. 23, 1906; Helen Rockwell Mabie; Nov. 10, 1882 - Aug 13, 1952."21
