oObit*18 November 1908  On 18 November 1908 at Glen Falls, New York, the obituary of George E. Mabee read: George Mabee, the operator who received a shock of 30,000 volts Monday at tho Spier Falls plant of the Hudson River Electric company, died yesterday afternoon at the Parks hospital. The charred body was removed to Bullard's undertaking rooms, where it awaits disposition. Mabee was a resident of Gansevoort. He leaves a wife and a child.8
Anecdote*25 May 1910 George E. Mabee, a sub-foreman, employed at the Speir Falls power plant, was killed by electricity on November 16, 1908, while at work at the plant and action for $25,000 damages was begun by his widow, Florence M. Mabee against George W. Dunn, et al., receivers of the Hudson River Water Power company. Trial of the action was begun In supreme court Monday afternoon before Justice Kellogg.
The plaintiff's intestate was a shift foreman, having charge of the plant for a tour of eight hours with four men under him. It is alleged that when he was killed that be was engaged in the work of removing a current transformer, which was useless, and was doing the work under the personal direction of Superintendent Anderson and that through the negligence of the superintendent, Mabee met his death. Mr. Anderson received a severe shock at the same time and was unconscious for a while.
Defendant claims there was no negligence on its part and that the deceased assumed the risks of the employment and was aware of all the dangers, having been foreman for a year and a half prior to his death.
When the trial of the case was resumed Tuesday, on motion of Attorney Curtis, the court granted an order allowing the receivers to settle with the plaintiff for $1,500 and the action was withdrawn.

oObit*20 September 1899  On 20 September 1899 at New York City, New York, the obituary of Horatio Theodore Mabee read: Whether Theodore Mabee held the same views about suicide that Colonel Ingersoll taught or not, he must have admired greatly the manner of burial of the dead agnostic. His last request was that his body be cremated with even more simplicity than that attending the final disposition of Colonel Ingersoll.
"See that my body is cremated," he wrote. "Let there be no display. One plain pine
coffin; just as Bob Ingersoll had. No plate, no date, no nothing."
In another note he commanded: "Throw my ashes to the winds of New York Bay. 8tatue of Liberty ."
Mabee was found dead with his throat cut and a razor lightly clutched in one hand. His death struggles must have been fearful, for his room at No. 214 Second avenue was smeared with blood. Mrs. Susan McGee, who keeps the boarding house in which Ms\abee lived, had not seen him since Monday noon. He was 40 years old. and separated from his wife and child a few months ago. He had been out of work and had been drinking heavily.5
