oObit | 17 June 1920 | On 17 June 1920 at Gladwin County, Michigan, the obituary of Clark Ledrieu Mabie read: Clark Ledrieu Mabie died Thursday morning, June 10, at his home on Cedar avenue after several months's illness through which he was a patient and uncomplaining sufferer. He was born in Naples, Yates county, New York, March 10, 1849. In 1855 he moved with his parents to Ionia county, Michigan. He was married to Laura Saxton McDaniels Sept. 27, 1877, at Farwell, where they kept a general store 10 years. They then moved to Meredith where they conducted a shingle mill and grocery store until they moved the shingle mill to Gladwin in 1894. He continued in the shingle mill business until 1902 when they opened a restaurant at their present location. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. William Hicks of Flint; and four grandchildren. He was the last of his family. His sister, Mrs. Emma Springer of Ontario, Oregon, died Dec. 25, 1918, and his brother, Milan Mabie, February, 1920, at Hart, Michigan. Services were held Sunday afternoon at the home by the I.O.O.F. lodge, of which Mr. Mabie was a member assisted by Rev. J. H. Cornelius. Interment in Highland cemetery. Relatives and friends from out of town who came to attend the funeral were Mrs. Phebe Mabie of Detroit. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Middleton of Billings, Ladrieu Honey of Flint, Mr. and Mrs. William Hicks of Flint.14 |

Wednesday they visited the Sea Breeze and he went bathing. In diving in shallow water he hurt himself, and was taken with cramps and was rescued with difficulty. He remained unconscious all night and died in the morning. The doctor refuses to give a certificate of death, as something suspicious is hinted at. The coroner will hold a post mortem.11 |

(Mentioned) oObit | 31 May 1932 | Gertrude Mary Reed was mentioned in the obituary of of John Saxon Mabie on 31 May 1932 at Rock Island, Illinois; Word of the death of Rev. John Saxton Mabie, who served four years in the pastorate of the First Baptist Church in Rock Island from 1875, has been received here. Rev. Mr. Mabie was 95 years of age and the oldest living graduate of the University of Chicago at the time of his death, which occurred May 21 at Long Beach Calif., where he lived for the last 30 years. He was born in New York state May 3, 1837, and in 1858 enrolled in the University of Chicago. He was graduatedf in 1862 with two classmates, the first class to complete a full four years' course in that institution. The records of the First Baptist church show that during 1875, in the first year of Mr. Mabie's pastorate, the church experienced the greatest revival in its history with 140 being received. Again in 1879, the fourth year of his service, the congregation celebrated the extinction of the church's debt. Surviving the venerable clergyman are the widow, Mrs Emma Mabie, and four daughters, Dr Catherine Mabie, now in the African Congo; Mrs Edith Shell, Colton, Calif; Mrs P. H. Reed, Colton, Calif, and Mrs W. J. Fitzpatrick of Eureka, Calif. Rev. Mr. Mabie was buried in Colton.10 |

oObit* | 29 March 1941 | On 29 March 1941 at Pomona, California, the obituary of Sarah Alena Maybee read: Claremont, March 29 – Alena Maybee Robbins, 81, mother of Mayor Homer E Robbins and Miss Mabell L Robbins of Claremont, died at 5 am today after an illness of seven months. Mrs Robbins, who was born February 20, 1854 in Clarkston, Mich, came to Claremont from Ann Arbor, Mich, 19 years ago. He husband, Elmer G Robbins, died in Miochigan in 1901. Mrs Robbins was a member of the Claremont church. Besides her daughter, whith whom she resided at 445 W 6th street, and her opnly son, Mayor Robbins, she leaves three granddaughters, Eleanor, Esther and Janet Robbins. Funeral services will be held Monday in Todd & Reeves chapel, Pomona, the the Rev J H Mallows and the Rev Josiah Poeton officiating. Entombment will follow in Pomona mausoleum.12 |
