Wagner, wife of Stephen Wagner, who had been ill about a week, died at her home in Carman on Friday. The service was conducted at her late home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock by the Rev. Mr. Grimm of the Carman Methodist Church. Burial was in the Parkview cemetery. Mrs. Wagner, formerly of Coxsackie, was born in Friendship. N. Y., and had lived in Carman 20 years. She was an active member of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Carman Methodist Church. Besides her husband, she leaves five sons, two daughters, a brother, Walter Mabie of Supply, Ohio, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.6 |

Rochester, Aug. 22.—Alfred Mabie, who for about twenty years has been an employee in the New York custom house, came here last Monday with his daughter-in- law. Wednesday they visited the Sea Breeze and he went bathing. In diving in shallow water he hurt himself, and was taken with cramps and was rescued with difficulty. Funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Jan. 29, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Janet Van Lear of First Presbyterian Church in Niles officiating. Committal services will be on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at Burr Oak Cemetery, in Burr Oak Township, with the Rev. Sally Wicks of First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives at the funeral home one hour before services. She was born on Dec. 7, 1914, in Sturgis, to Charles and Urial (Cummins) Mabie. She graduated from Elkhart Central High School in Indiana and lived in Dowagiac before moving to Niles in 1999. She enjoyed playing cards with neighbors, completing word puzzle books, flower gardening and traveling throughout the United States and most of all caring for her family. On July 4, 1934, in Elkhart, Ind., she married Dewain Filley, who died on Jan. 12, 1982. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Charles Mabie; sister, Vaughn Mabie and twin sister, Ruth Mabie, who all died with their mother in an automobile accident. She is survived by her three daughters, Jan Neff of Woodland, Calif., Helen (Stan) Gorton of Niles and Mary (Douglas) Fox of Portage; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.11 |
