Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of of Charles Aaron Mabie on 11 October 1918 at Cortland, New York; Once Hotel Proprietor - Late Conducted Jewelry Store Charles A. Mabie died at 6:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home, 9 Clinton-ave., after a week's illness of pneumonia following an attack of influenza, aged 42 years. A private funeral will be at 2 o'clock Saturday and the body will be buried in Cortland Rural cemetery. Mr. Mabie, who was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Mabie, was born in this city Oct. 25, 1875, and went to Syracuse with his parents when still a child. He returned to Cortland seventeen years ago, and for eleven years was in partnership with his father in the management of the Dexter House. When the Mabies sold their interests in the hotel property, Charles Mabie opened a jewelry store in the Cortland House block, later moving to the Meade building in Main-st. He was married in this city Jan. 16, 1907 to Mrs. Emma Wade, who survives him. Besides his wife and parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. John B. Dunn, all of Cortland.12 |

Anecdote* | Chauncey Button married Emma Babcock Mabie when she was 17 yrs of age. From an early age she was deaf from scarlet fever. Chauncey courted her at the home of her Aunt Cole; her parents as well as a sister had died of consumption. He bought a farm on Bolivar Road near Chittenango, of 200 acres. It was there he brought his wife Emma as a bride. They raised hops, always had a pasture full of horses and had a dairy of registered cows. The farm was sold about 1956 to Morris and Gordon.7 | |

Shutts, an aged resident, died at her home in this village, at 3 o'clock Monday, after a lingering illness of tuberculosis. Mrs. Shutts was the daughter of Henry Mabee of Glen and was born June 29, 1830. In 1858 she married Dow Wemple and resided In this village until his death when she removed to Auriesville. In 1877 she was united in marriage to Conrad Shutts. whose death occurred tn 1886. She was a member of Auriesville Reformed church and was most active in all its interests as long as health permitted. Mrs. Shutts is survived by one sister, Mrs. D. F. VanBuren. of Fultonville; one niece, Mrs. Wilson Shelp; and three step-children, Mrs. Jay Irving;, Mrs. N. J. Quackenbush of Auriesville, and Mrs. Joseph Quackenbush , of New York. The funeral will be private and will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 at her home. Rev. E. B. Irish will officiate and interment will be made in the family plot in Maple Avenue cemetery.15 |

Mrs. Van Buren suffered a stroke of paralysis Thursday night and her condition was considered serious from the first. She was born in the town of Glen, March 8, 1842, the daughter of Henry and Katharine Mabee. October 22, 1879. she married Daniel F. Van Buren. and resided in the vicinity of Mill Point until four years ago, when the family moved to this village. She was a member of the Reformed church of Auriesville. Mrs. Van Buren is survived by her husband, a niece, Mrs. Wilson Shelp, of Fultonville. and three cousins, Fred S. Haslett, of Fort Plain, Mrs. W. G. Waldron and Mrs. Charles B. DeGraff, of Amsterdam. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the residence, the Rev. E. B. Irish officiating. The Interment will be in Maple avenue cemetery.16 |
