Marriage*23 July 1893 Jennie Mabie married George F Gismond on 23 July 1893 at Jersey City, New Jersey.
"Miss Jennie Mabie, the daughter of John J. Mabie of Clinton street, was wooed by George F. Gismond. a young clerk in the grocery of Bonta Bros. Because of the limited income of the young man Miss Jennie's parents withheld their consent to marriage until the circumstances of the intended groom warranted him in setting up an establishment of his own. This was the situation last Sunday morning when George and Jennie went to New York with the specially avowed purpose of seeing Central Park. Evening wore into late night the last train had arrived from the city, and there was great uneasiness in the Mabie home when the young lovers did not come. Mrs. Mabie was more exercised than her husband, and had inquiries made at the houses of many friends in Hackensack, but nobody had heard or knew where the missing young folk were.
The first train on Monday morning brought the wanderers borne. They explained that they had missed the last train Sunday night, and. having no friends or relatives in the city with whom they could spend the night determined to solve the problem of the situation by getting married, which they did. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Francis Morgan, pastor of the Park Reformed Church of Jersey City, at the parsonage. 281 Pavonia avenue, and they spent the night at the Washington Hotel, Jersey City. In attestation of the story they presented to the young lady's parents a certificate from the minister. Mr. and Mrs. Mabie were at first inclined to manifest displeasure at the action of the young people, but soon relented, and the whole party sat down to a wedding breakfast, over which a blessing was showered upon the bride and bridegroom."5,6
