Marjorie was born October 22, 1927 in Emmett, Idaho to Fred Willet and Minnie Beulah Orr; she was to be their only child. Marjorie grew up in Sweet, Idaho where she developed her life-long love of the out-of-doors. She loved to take her children, and later her grandchildren, on hikes in the hills around Squaw Creek where she lived and played as a child. In 1942, Marjorie's parents moved to Dallas, Oregon to work in the lumber industry. Marjorie completed her high school education, graduating from Dallas High School in 1946. She worked for a short time in Portland, Oregon before accepting a marriage proposal from Nelson Mabee. They were married on March 23, 1947. Marjorie and Nelson moved to the ranch on Squaw Butte that Nelson's grandfather had homesteaded, and lived there until 1957 when they moved to Montour to raise their three children, Linda Mabee-Reich, Carol (Brock) Rainey, and Raymond (Christy) Mabee. Marjorie and Nelson later moved to Emmett, Idaho and enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing after Nelson's retirement. Marjorie was an amazing woman who loved her family above all else, and cherished her many friendships. She was a "farmer's wife" who worked in the fields, cared for livestock, had a green thumb that many envied, and could cook the best Sunday dinners ever eaten. Her patience was endless, and she was "Mom" to many of her children's friends. She was a member of the Montour Ladies Aid Club, loved gardening and enjoyed compiling genealogy records on all sides of the family. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Nelson in 2009. Marjorie is survived by her 3 children, 6 grandchildren, and 11 (soon to be 12) great grandchildren. Burial will be at the Sweet-Montour Cemetery in Sweet, Idaho, under the direction of The Potter Funeral Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to the Montour Ladies Aid Club (Delma Gatfield, treasurer @ 5110 Montour Rd. Emmett, ID 83617) or to the charity of your choice. A special thanks to XL Hospice, the staff at Walter Knox Memorial Hospital, Valley Medical and the Potter Funeral Chapel.5 |
