Nelson will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and neighbor who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Nelson was born Nov. 8, 1924, in Nampa, Idaho, to Ray and Trella Mabee, and was the eldest son of four children. He lived and worked on his parents' ranch in Sweet, Idaho. In March of 1944, during World War II, Nelson joined the Navy and was sent with a combat unit to the Philippines. He was stationed on the Island of Manicani where he served until his discharge in May of 1946.

In 1957, he sold the ranch and moved to Montour, and began 29 years of employment with Boise Cascade at the sawmill in Emmett.
