Carl graduated from Sequoia High School in 1928 and worked for the Bank of Italy (now Bank of America), Curry Manufacturing Company and Larson Electronic Glass. He was an active member of the former Redwood City Sportman's Club, Rotary Club, Sirs, Suburbans, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, as well as a 60-year plus member of the Masonic Lodge. Carl was an avid water fowl and deer hunter in his younger years. He was known for his positive sense of humor and a living source of history for the area in which he grew up and lived. His many stories will be long remembered by family members and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy, in 1983, and his older brother, Kendall, in 1960. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Anneliese Mabie of Newark; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Norma Mabie of Weaverville; and daughter and son-in-law Susan and Gary Ransford from San Carlos, as well as five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving him are his younger brother Eldon Mabie of Watsonville and his younger sister Joan Joesten of Yreka. Honoring Carl's wishes, no services were held and internment was at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto.15 |

Born in San Mateo to the late Dorothy and Carl Mabie, he spent his childhood in Redwood City, where he developed a love for nature, science, history, and outdoor activity. Upon graduation from San Jose State University, he served as a medic in the US Army, 10th Infantry Division, in Bamberg, Germany, where he met and married the love of his life, Anneliese. After his discharge, they returned to the San Francisco Bay Area, where he taught science for 35 years at Borel Middle School in San Mateo and Bowditch Middle School in Foster City. Chuck had numerous and diverse interests during his lifetime, which he shared with his children, grandchildren, students, and friends. He enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing, oil painting, research history, camping, and historical armaments. Chuck liked to gather with his fellow school retirees for luncheons, and was also an active participant in both E. Clampus Vitus, Yerba Buena 1, and the Alfred Pleasonton Camp 24, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. He was a devoted husband, father, mentor, and friend, and was unapologetic about his patriotism and belief in duty to family and country. Chuck is survived by his wife, Anneliese; daughter, Doris (Ed) Gonzalez; son, Charlie (Kathy), and five grandsons, Nick, Alex, Ben, Joe, and Mark. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Mabie, and sister, Susan Ransford. He will be dearly missed by all whom he touched, especially his family. His family would like to extend special thanks to all the staff of Kaiser Fremont for their ongoing care for Chuck during his long battle. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, located at 38451 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94536. He worked at San Mateo Juvenile Hall for 10 years, and was superintendent of Juvenile Hall for Shasta County for 11 years. He most recently was chief probation officer for Trinity County for 13 years. He lived in Redwood City for 32 years, Redding for 11 years, and Weaverville for 31 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, RV-ing to National parks, and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Norma; sons, Richard Jr. and Paul G; five grandchildren, Bradley, Natalie, Evan, Amanda and Vincent; two great-grandchildren, Rhoslyn and Carrigan; and sister, Susan. His brother, Charles, preceded him in death.10 |

Carl graduated from Sequoia High School in 1928 and worked for the Bank of Italy (now Bank of America), Curry Manufacturing Company and Larson Electronic Glass. He was an active member of the former Redwood City Sportman's Club, Rotary Club, Sirs, Suburbans, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, as well as a 60-year plus member of the Masonic Lodge. Carl was an avid water fowl and deer hunter in his younger years. He was known for his positive sense of humor and a living source of history for the area in which he grew up and lived. His many stories will be long remembered by family members and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy, in 1983, and his older brother, Kendall, in 1960. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Anneliese Mabie of Newark; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Norma Mabie of Weaverville; and daughter and son-in-law Susan and Gary Ransford from San Carlos, as well as five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving him are his younger brother Eldon Mabie of Watsonville and his younger sister Joan Joesten of Yreka. Honoring Carl's wishes, no services were held and internment was at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto.15 |

He enjoyed movies, burgers/fries, going to the mall with his friends, tinkering in Ken and Julie's garage on his many electronic projects, going on trips to Washington to see Julie and Earl, and on trips with other adults with developmental disabilities. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth (Julie) Mabie of Aptos; sister, Julie (Mabie) (Earl) Marcellus of Leavenworth, Wash; as well as a niece and nephew, their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Mabie, in his tragic death, was able to be an organ donor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider organ donation. (Witness) oObit | 19 March 2008 | Joan M Mabie was mentioned in the obituary of Carl Frank Mabie on 19 March 2008 at Oakland, California; Carl Frank Mabie passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2008 at Sequoia Hospital at the age of 96. He was born in Redwood City on June 17, 1911 to Carl K. Mabie and Ina Mabie. His father was postmaster and mayor of Redwood City. Carl graduated from Sequoia High School in 1928 and worked for the Bank of Italy (now Bank of America), Curry Manufacturing Company and Larson Electronic Glass. He was an active member of the former Redwood City Sportman's Club, Rotary Club, Sirs, Suburbans, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, as well as a 60-year plus member of the Masonic Lodge. Carl was an avid water fowl and deer hunter in his younger years. He was known for his positive sense of humor and a living source of history for the area in which he grew up and lived. His many stories will be long remembered by family members and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Dorothy, in 1983, and his older brother, Kendall, in 1960. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Anneliese Mabie of Newark; son and daughter-in-law Richard and Norma Mabie of Weaverville; and daughter and son-in-law Susan and Gary Ransford from San Carlos, as well as five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Also surviving him are his younger brother Eldon Mabie of Watsonville and his younger sister Joan Joesten of Yreka. Honoring Carl's wishes, no services were held and internment was at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto.9 |

He was 92. Born in Redwood City, Mr. Mabie lived in the Watsonville area for 59 years. He worked for Bank of America and later worked as a real estate agent. Mr. Mabie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, traveling and spending time with his family. Mr. Mabie was a Blue Knight volunteer at Watsonville Community Hospital, a driver for the Volunteer Bureau, and a member of the Pajaro Valley Rod & Gun Club, Watsonville/Santa Cruz Sons in Retirement, Watsonville Elks, Gideons and Masonic Lodge. Mr. Mabie is survived by two sons, Ken (Julie) Mabie of Aptos and Jerry Mabie of San Jose; daughter, Julie (Earl) Mabie-Marcellus of Leavenworth, Wash; sister, Joan Joesten of Yreka; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Gustafson. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Watsonville on Fifth and Lincoln streets. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of Santa Cruz County, 940 Disc Drive, Scotts Valley, CA 95066; to the Salvation Army, 112 Grant Ave. in Watsonville; to the Pajaro Valley Rod & Gun Club, 557 1/2 Lakeview Road in Watsonville; or to the First Baptist Church of Watsonville.10 |

(Mentioned) oObit | 13 October 1919 | Hettie E Rice was mentioned in the obituary of of Morris Maybee on 13 October 1919 at Portage, Columbia County, Wisconsin; Morris Maybee, aged 87 years, died Sunday, October 12 at 4:30 am at the home of his daughter, Mrs Jennie Felt, 224 E. Emmett St, after a lingering illness of a complication of diseases. Mr Maybee was born in Canada on December 20, 1832 and when a small boy he moved with his parents to the state of New York and as a young man worked as a raftman on the river, later he lived in Michigan. On August 21, 1869 he was united in marriage to Miss Ellen Smith in the town of Scott. Mr Maybee lived on a farm in Fort Winnebago for many years with his family, his wife having died 19 years ago. He has made his home for the past 18 years with his dayghter, Mrs Fred Felt, who has tenderly and faithfully cared for him since. He is survived by four children, Mrs Jennie Felt, and Mrs Wm Bishop of this city, Mrs Edwin Rice of Greys River, Wash., and one son William in the west. Three grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 o'clock from the home of Mrs Jennie Felt, 224 E. Emmett St, Rev. Speegle of the Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery.8 |
