Born on Sept. 10, 1923 in Hawthorne, NJ, she was the daughter of Russell and Minnie (Heerschap) Mabey. She was a 1941 graduate of Hawthorne High School. Evelyn worked as a telephone operator in New York City. She was married to Bert DuPree on Oct. 21, 1944, who predeceased her on March 20, 1998. Moving to this area in the early 1960s, she worked for Wilson's for many years and several years for Dr. Richard Parmett. Evelyn was a member of the Community Bible Church in Charlemont and was active in Gideon International. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, knitting and spending time with her family. She was a member of TOPS. Survivors include three sons and their wives: Jerry (Linda) and Brian (Chris) of Charlemont and Jeffrey (Julie) of Truro; eight grandchildren: Bryce, Michael, Greg, Eric, Joshua and Ryan DuPree, Heather Lengieza and Amanda Gagnon; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Alma Gerhardt of New Jersey, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Bruce, in 1979. A celebration of her life will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Colrain Community Church. Calling hours at Johnson Funeral Home, 104 Bridge St., Shelburne Falls, will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8.2 |
