(Witness) oObit | Stephen E. Mabey was mentioned in the obituary of Lucretia C. Hicks; Lucretia (Hicks) Mabey wife of S. E. Mabey, was born Dec. 11, 1835 near Detroit, Mich., died March 23, 1896, aged 60 years. Moved to Illinois and was married to S. E. Mabey in 1858, with whom she lived happily 37 years. They removed to Nebraska 17 years ago and have lived in Butler county for the past five years. She was converted at the age of 14 years and has been faithful to her Saviour to the end. For several years her health has been somewhat impaired, but her sufferings have been borne with such patience and cheerfulness that none realized its seriousness. Mrs. Mabey was a thoroughly conscientious woman, ever ready to sacrifice herself to the good of others. None knew her but to love her and those that knew her best loved her most. It was the good in others that she saw rather than the ill they did, and her heart was one of sympathy, bearing no feeling of resentment and her life full of loving, helpful deeds. A halo of beauty surrounded her in her bones, which to her was the center. of her affections and truly the children of such a mother, rise up and call her blessed. She rests from her labor and her works do follow her. She looked for eternal life at the resurrection of the just when the life giver comes. May God comfort the aged companion and the loving daughters and eons called so suddenly to part with this dear wife and mother. They have the tender sympathy of the entire community. The funeral services were' held in the M. E. church, conduced by Rev. Smith, the pastor, Text. Rev. 14: 13. All of the children were present except one son. Be tranquil O my soul, Be quiet ever fear, Thy Father hath control And he is ever near. Ne'er of thy lot complain Whatever may befall. Sickness or death or pain, Tis well appointed all. A Father's chastening hand is leading thee along ; Nor distant is the land Where swells the immortal song Oh then. my soul' be still. Await Heaven's high decree, Seek but thy Fathers will,It shall be well with thee. A Friend.5 | |
