oObit | 24 April 2016 | On 24 April 2016 the obituary of Joseph Byron Mabie read: Comments from his grandson Kenneth Mabie: He worked for P.E./Peco (Philadelphia Electric Company) not Pennsylvania Electric. He was a Naval Fireman while in the Navy (which inspired me to become a firefighter myself) and was present in San Francisco Bay when the Spruce Goose flew (we [he and I] even spotted him on the deck of a his ship watching it fly in a History Channel Documentary about the Spruce Goose) When he worked for the railroad he was no longer a state police trooper having been forced to leave the force due to budget cutbacks. basically he was laid off and never went back. While in college in Kentucky he discovered Blue Grass music and was a life long fan as well as a fan of big band jazz musicians like Cab Calloway He didn't die at his home in Thornton but at a nursing home complex called Fair Acres in Media/Lima, Pennsylvania. Even though his obituary says he is laid to rest at St. Peter and Paul cemetery his ashes were spread in a Cape Coral Florida canal, this seemed more fitting since he loved fishing so much. He loved the Three Stooges and old 30's gangster movies He loved David Crockett and the Alamo (which lead me to study and love it as well) He was a life long contributor to St. Joe's school for Indian Children (a school that provided education and help to Native American Indian Children) He loved field guides about North American flora and fauna. He was a life long subscriber to Readers Digest His Favorite TV show was MASH (I hated it as a kid but actually grew to love it myself in me late teens and 20's still do to this day) His favorite past time was building things (work tables, decks lamps, repairing yard equipment like lawn mowers, etc), yelling at me for being a dumbass kid and going fishing with me.10 |
