(Witness) oObit | 12 January 1880 | Amiel M. Hannay was mentioned in the obituary of Henry Ter Bush Hannay on 12 January 1880 at Camden, Oneida County, New York; Mr. Henry T. B. Hannay died very suddenly at his residence in Annsville, on the morning of Dec. 13th, 1879, aged 72 years. The long residence in this vicinity of the deceased would seem to entitle him to more than a passing notice. Mr. Hannay was born in the town of Westerlo, Albany Co., in 1807, and was married to Miss Minerva Mabey, of the same place and removed to Florence in 1828. He settled about a mile north of what is now known as Empeyville, or East Florence, and with the exception of about eight years, spent mostly in his native town, has been identified with the interests of that town and the neighborhood immediately adjoining the town of Annsvillle. He raised a family of ten children, seven of who are still living. His two eldest sons, Amiel M. and Theron, served in the Union army; the former is still living and resides in Minnesota, while the later sleeps with other martyrs to free constitutional government, near Frederic, Maryland. By industry and economy in business, the deceased had acquired a competence that had enabled him to live in retirement from active business pursuits, and his loss is severely felt by his friends and neighbors.2 |

(Mentioned) oObit | 5 October 2015 | Billie Frances Prothro was mentioned in the obituary of of Joseph Guy Mabee on 5 October 2015 at Midland, Texas; Joe Mabee, a Midland and West Texas visionary and a legend in aviation and community development, died Saturday at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was 84. Mabee, a kindly prankster bestowed with witty humor and a giving heart and a background in ranching and the oilfields, also nurtured his talent in pursuing well-defined goals in philanthropy. Like his father, Guy Mabee, and his father's uncle, John Mabee, Joe Mabee was steadfast in his enterprises and causes, including successes in the oilfields. And like his father before him, Joe Mabee presided over the Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Mabee Foundation established by John Mabee and his wife in 1948. The Mabees were eminently successful in the oil business and generously shared their successes and prevailed over setbacks, never succumbing to failures. Survivors include his wife, Van A. Van Wie Mabee of Midland; sons Guy Mabee of Gordon and John Mabee of Midland; daughters Gail Commagere of Del Valle and Leanne Wilson of Hamilton; 14 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mabee is Billie Prothro Mabee Hightower -- mother of his children -- who graduated with Mabee in the Midland High School class of 1949. Mabee was an aviation enthusiast since his youth and a member of the Confederate Air Force. He enriched his flair for airplanes, especially World War II vintage aircraft, and for race cars, especially his father's Guy Mabee Drilling Co. Special, an open-cockpit streamliner. Mabee, then 22, set a world record with the streamliner of 203.105 miles per hour at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 1953.5 |
