oObit | 1 January 1987 | On 1 January 1987 at Mayville, Michigan, the obituary of Myrtle May Mabee read: Myrtle Mae Merwin of Lapeer, formerly of Mayville, died Sunday, December 28, 1986, at the Lapeer County Medical Care Facility, Lapeer. She was 99. Mrs. Merwin was born December 10, 1887, in Canada. Her mother was Myrtle Maybee. She married Clare Merwin in Mayville but he preceded her in death in April 1959. She resided in Lapeer the past 20 years. Survivors include a son, Chancey Merwin of Newberry Springs, California; sister-in-law, Hazel Drury of Marquette; 2 nieces, Rena (Mrs. Charles) Swain of Lapeer, and Jean Drury of Frankfort; 6 nephews, Alfred and David Drury of Marquette; Hue Drury of Ironwood, Wayne Merwin of Florida; Curtis Blair of Mayville; and Tom Blair of Rochester; 3 grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by a son, Jay Merwin, on Oct, 7, 1953. Funeral services were held Tues., Dec. 30, 1 pm at the Tiffin Funeral Home, Mayville. The Rev. Vern Harmon officiated and burial was in the Rich Township Cemetery, Lapeer County.10 |

Death was due to carbon monoxide. The Marion County coroner's office said the man left s letter in which he said he was suffering from an incurable disease.
