Lawton, 95, of 6367 Hyde Flats Rd, Black Creek, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the Absolut of Houghton on Friday, August 03, 2012 after a brief illness. Born on May 25, 1917, in Cuba, NY she was a daughter of Paul D. and Cecile German Mabey. On September 17, 1938, in Cuba, New York she married Daniel B. Lawton who predeceased her on January 4, 2004. She was the oldest and sole survivor of her family. Lucile was a graduate of the former Cuba Central School Class of 1936. She was one of the first employees of Acme Electric, but later went to work for Cuba Memorial Hospital as a nurses aide, retiring in 1970. Mrs. Lawton was a long time active member of the Black Creek Baptist Church and was always involved with the missionary society. She held several offices including past president of the Daughters of the Union Veteran's, was a member of the Home Bureau, Cuba-Rushford Alumni Association, Cuba Historical Society, was a 4-H Leader and was a former member of the New Hudson Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. For several years she was the New Hudson Town Supervisor. This past summer she was the oldest member that attended the Black Creek Community Picnic. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, and entertaining friends and family in her home. For the past several years she was a resident at the Absolut of Houghton and always cherished the friendships and care she received during her stay. She is survived by her children, David (Janice) Lawton of Bolivar, Julia (James) Tait of Elma, Donald (Donna) Lawton of New Market, TN, Barbara (Noble) Brann, Jr. of Callao, Virginia, and John (Ann) Lawton of Watsontown, PA; her gandchildren, Mark (Laurie), Bryan, Lori Jo, Steven (Sherri), Elizabeth (Timothy), Christopher (Heidrum), Lisa (Ben), Troy, Michael, Paula (Duane), Eric (Kimberly), Becky (Fred), and Jillian (Bill); 28 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brother Arthur P. Mabey, and two sisters Marjorie Elling and Ernestine Green. Friends will be received at the Mark F. Rinker Funeral Home & Memorial Service, Inc., 9 Bull St., Cuba on Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. and on Monday, August 6, 2012 from 10-11:00 A.M. at which time funeral services will be held. The Rev. Roger White and Rev. John Asquith, will co officiate. Burial will be in Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, New York.2 |

Mabey who passed away Friday, October 28, 1966 at Cuba Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Edward D. Peachey officiated, and burial was in Cuba Cemetery. After retiring from active veterinary practice in 1960, Dr. Mabey did not enjoy the best of health, but he continued to be active in social and civic affairs, and his death came as a shock to a wide circle of friends who mourn his passing. Born in the Town of Lyndon January 5, 1895, he was a son of John W. and Emma McStay Mabey. His wife, the former Rhea Royce, is surviving; a foster-son Ray Meek, of San Rafael, California; four grandchildren; one brother, Ross Mabey of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Mabey was graduated from Cuba High School, and received a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University where he did graduate work and was for a time instructor in surgery at the Veterinary College there. In addition to his practice in Cuba, he was for about ten years veterinarian for Borden Co. He was the founder, with Dr. Dana Scutt, of Guernsey Farms, which has served this area for more than twenty-five years; a member of Cuba Lodge 306 F. & A. M; Ismailia Temple AAONMS of Buffalo; Scottish Rite, Olean; Allegany County Shrine Club; Farm Bureau, Cuba Grange 799; was a past president of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association; member of American Veterinarians Assoc, and N. Y. State Veterinarians Assoc.: and an honorary member of Alpha Psi Fraternity of Cornell University. Dr. Mabey's paternal ancestors came to America from Holland. His grandfather was an early settler in the Rawson area, coming from Tompkins County in 1863. His maternal ancestors were of Scotch-Irish descent, settling in Lyndon Township in 1850. Memorial gifts are being made to the Memorial Fund of the Cuba Historical Society, of which Dr. Mabey was a charter member.7 |

Mabey, and daughter-in-law, Carol, of DeSoto, Tex; one granddaughter, Colleen Grindele of Duncanville, Tex; two grandsons, D. Ross Mabey, Dallas, Tex. and David Mabey, Lancaster, Tex; and one great-grandson, Steven Grindele. Mrs. Mac H. Mabey of Cuba is his sister-in-law. Services were held at the David Clayton Funeral Chapel in Duncanville on March 3. Memorials may be made to the Franklinville Masonic Lodge No. 626.8 |

Oelkers, the matron of honor, wore a dusty rose silk jersey gown, with full draped skirt, the bodice having sweetheart neckline and bracelet length sleeves. A shoulder length net veil fell from a dusty rose flower tiara. Her bouquet was of deep pink roses and white pom-poms. The maid of honor. Miss Ruth Richards of Lockport, and bridesmaid, Mrs. Henry Juul of Buffalo, were gowned alike in hyacinth blue silk jersey gowns, fashioned like that of the matron of honor. They wore matching shoulder length veils caught with flowers. Miss Richards carried a medium shade of pink roses and pom-poms, Mrs. Juul's bouquet was of light pink roses and pompoms. George W. Mabey of Cuba, N. Y., acted as best man and Clifford Booth of Olean, Frederick Swift and Donald Witherall of Cuba and Robert Litchka of North Tonawanda were the ushers. Mrs. Carl Oelkers, mother of the bride, wore a black dress with a blue vest and black hat trimmed with blue ostrich tips. Mrs. Mabey, the groom's mother, chose a black dress with pink trimming and a black hat with pink ostrich tips. Each wore a corsage of pink roses and delphinium. A reception for 250 guests was held at the home of the bride. Out of town guests came from Daytona Beach, Fla., Canada, Olean, Cuba, Niagara Falls, Lockport and Buffalo. The bride received her B.S. degree from Buffalo State Teachers College and has been a member of Cuba Central school faculty, Cuba, N. Y. Lt. Mabey served 38 months overseas with the Transportation Corps. He is a graduate of Cuba high school and Westbrook Academy at Olean, N. Y."7,8 |
