Mabey, 75, of 17 Glenwood Ave. [Orange], a retired truck driver, died Wednesday in Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol. He leaves his former wife, Mary A. (Desreuisseau) Mabey of Springfield; two sons, Robert W. Mabey of Agawam and Leon A. Mabey of Athol; a brother, Charles Mabey of Yuma, Ariz; two sisters, Sylvia Hebert of West Hatfield and Viola Sanger of Athol; four grandchildren; nephews and nieces. He was born in Warren, R.I., the son of Leon A. and Rose Ann (Gauthier) Mabey, and lived in Chicopee and West Springfield before moving here 20 years ago. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the 826th Aviation Engineer Battalion in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Mabey was a truck driver for several freight companies in the Springfield and Athol areas, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Orange American Legion Post No. 172, and the Last Man's Club. He was also a member of the Roy L. Boyce Post No. 650, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Athol and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 404. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in Fiske Funeral Home, 1356 Main St., Athol. Burial will be in Hillcrest Park Cemetery, Springfield. A calling hour is 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. tomorrow in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7 Oak Street, Worcester 01609.8 |

He loved his work and gave himself whole-heartedly to its interest. In Nov 1912 he was united in marriage to Angeline Stenerson of Menomonie. To this happy union one daughter was born, Miss Mary Gail. Shortly after he moved to New Richmond his wife took sick and died. He continued with his business and the care of his daughter and home until October of 1927, when he was married to Ruth Schnell of New Richmond, who became his loving companion and wife to him and a kind mother to his daughter. On Dec 17, 1928 a son, Roger Charles, was born to them, but died in infancy. Although never united with any church he was a believer in the principles of the Christian religion and quite regularly attended the church services on Sunday.... Surviving are his beloved wife and companion, his daughter, Mary Gail, his brother, Fred L Mabee, Minneapolis; his three sisters, Miss A C Mabee and Mrs E E Hunt, Minneapolis, and Mrs J W Arnott of Belgrade, Minn.... The body was laid to rest in the Huntington cemetery....4 |

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mrs. Friedley grew up in Middle Village, N.Y. After graduating from Grover Cleveland High School, she worked at the Home Insurance Company in New York City. She married the Rev. Charles R. Friedley in 1938 and moved with him to Delhi, N.Y., where he became pastor of the First Baptist Church. Subsequent pastorates included the First Baptist Church in Susquehanna, Pa., Cannonsville Baptist Church in Cannonsville, N.Y., and the First Baptist Church in Sussex, where the couple served from 1958 until Rev. Friedley's retirement in 1975. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Ray, in 1995. She is survived by a sister, Mildred Negris, of Downer's Grove, Ill; three daughters, Kathie, of Lincoln, Va., Virginia Weinstock, of Potomac, Md. and Carol Griffith, of Washington, D.C., and her grandchildren, Sara and Andrea Weinstock and Jacob Endres. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sussex. Interment will immediately follow at Deckertown-Union Cemetery, Wantage. Arrangements are under the direction of Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23) Sussex. Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the church.2 |
