He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Warren, Homer, and Junior Mabie. Mr. Youmans was born April 6, 1917, on Fultonham, the son of Charles and Helen (Gridley) Youmans. Mr. Youmans was employed as a security guard for the New York State Power Authority in Gilboa for several years before retiring. In his early years, Mr. Youmans was manager of the former WGY Grocery Store in Middleburgh and then the Oneida Market for many years. Mr. Youmans then joined the United States Army serving from 1942 to 1946. He was discharged as a technician, 5th Class. After the war, Mr. Youmans was the owner of the former Oucangena View Tourist Home on River Street in Middleburgh. Later, he managed the Sunoco Station (now Ryan's) on Main Street, Middleburgh. Mr. Youmans was a past president of the Middleburgh Rotary Club, as well as a free and accepted mason. Mr. Youmans spent many winters at his home in Stuart, Fla. In the summertime, he enjoyed his hobby of antiques and collectibles. Mr. Youmans was predeceased by his first wife, Alta (Mabie) Youmans; his second wife, Marion (Wally) Youmans; his only daughter, Donna Youmans; two brothers, James and John Otto Youmans; and a sister, Elizabeth Y. Frisbie Pulver. Mr. Youmans is survived by one sister, Laura (Youmans) Brandow of Altamont; his beloved and devoted fiancee, Maude Haskin of Broome Center; two nieces, Helen Brandow Coughtry and Sybil Youmans Reisch; two nephews, William H. They later divorced. He married Kathryn Willis in Phillips in January 1979. She survives. Roy liked outdoor activities. He was a member of Hawkins United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife Kathryn; his sons Gary (Linda) of Kennan, Wayne (Peg) of Hawkins, Kenneth of Kennan, and Lon (Beth) of Milwaukee; his step-daughters Karen Mandell and Marsha (Bill) Martinson; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and his brother Donald (Gladys) of Catawba. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-daughter Joyce Karpalo; his brothers Geoge, Arnold and Raymond; and his sister Jul Mocello. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at the Hawkins United Methodist Church with Rev. Loretta Waughtal officiating. Burial in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Hawkins. The Mabie family will receive friends on Monday after 4 p.m. at the Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith and at the church on Tuesday for an hour prior to service time.5 |

Wayne was born on Jan. 16, 1953, in Ripon, to Roy and Eva Mabie. While growing up, Wayne lived in Montana; Ely, Minn; Detroit, Mich. and Kennan and Catawba. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1972. On June 26, 1976, he married the love of his life, Peggy "Peg" (Quinn). Wayne and Peggy made their home in Hawkins, where they lived for 45 years and raised their family. Wayne worked at Jeld-Wen (NORCO) for 40 years and retired in 2014. He also served on the Hawkins Town Board for many years. He loved to be outdoors, cutting wood, hunting and riding ATV. He also was an avid sports fan, supporting his children and grandchildren throughout the years, as well as watching or listening to his favorite professional and college teams, the Brewers, Packers and Badgers. One of Wayne's greatest joys in life was spending time with his family, especially being a "big kid" with his grandchildren. Anyone that knew Wayne, would say he was a very hard-working man and always willing to lend a helping hand. Wayne is survived by his wife, Peggy; son, Ben (Jenn) of Hawkins; daughter, Jennifer (Steve) Barg of Holmen; daughter, April (Jason) Anderson of Cadott; seven grandchildren, Lizzy, Tiffany, Landon, Wyatt, Sawyer, Oliver and Andrew; step-mom, Kathryn Mabie; four brothers, Gary (Linda), Kenny, Lon (Beth) and Ted; many nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 9, at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home in Ladysmith. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, April 8, at Nash-Jackan Funeral Home and one hour before the service on Friday.6 |
