She was born in Poughkeepsie on October 16, 1937 to Mercedes and Edmund Mabie. On July 16,1957, she married Oliver W Johnson of Water Valley, Mississippi who survives her. Also surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Johnson Castagno, M.D. of Roswell, GA and Jill Johnson Rendeiro of Avon, CT; five grandchildren. Christopher Rendeiro, Gregory Rendeiro, Caroline Rendeiro, Anna Castagno and Michael Castagno; and a brother, Jan E. Mabie of Milledgeville, GA. Mrs. Johnson was educated in the Poughkeepsie schools and received her undergraduate and masters degrees from SUNY New Paltz. She taught for thirty three years in the Arlington school system before retiring in 1994. She is remembered by her students as a teacher with high standards, a flair for the dramatic and a quick sense of humor. After retiring, Chris's greatest joy was entertaining her grandchildren who adored her bubbly spirit another wonderful ability to play at their level. She also loved lounging in her pool, surrounded by the beautiful garden she designed and nurtured She was a devoted daughter who tenderly cared for her aging parents until their deaths. An accomplished gourmet cook, she perfected a broad range of dishes from the simple raspberry "Grammy Jam" to a sublime Norman Rabbit Stew. She enjoyed travel and had plans to celebrate her and Ollie's upcoming 50th wedding anniversary with a Mediterranean cruise. Calling hours will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 7th at the Timothy P Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue in Poughkeepsie. A Memorial service will be held on Friday, June 8, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Doyle Funeral Home.2 | |

For the past 50 years Mr Mabee had been a resident of the town of Goshen, following the occipation of a farmer and dealing extensively in cattle. He was a member of the Goshen Methodist Church. The surviving family are, one daughter, Mrs Frank Blackney, of Middleton; three grand-daughters, Mrs John Rice, Jr, of Goshen; Mrs Harold Ebner, of Venice Florida; Mrs Emma Faulkner, Ridgefield Park, N.. J., and one nephew, Lewis Mabee, of Goshen. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Goshen Methodist Church. Rev R. L. Mauterstock officiating.
