Mary was a highly recognized business woman in the field of insurance claims. In 1977 she was the first female agent hired in Indiana for Western Southern Life Insurance and the first woman agent nationwide at Western Southern Life to be promoted to management sales force. She was an insurance claims manager at Preferred Risk Insurance from 1981, retiring in 1995. Awards presented to Mary in 1987 were Preferred Risk Adjuster of the Year (first presentation ever given) and Central Indiana Claims Association Adjuster of the Year. Mary's philosophy was "each day was a gift," after and eight year illness. Since 1996, she volunteered at the Wellness Community. She not only participated in but facilitated orientation sessions for newly diagnosed cancer patients. She felt it was very important and hopeful for a newly diagnosed person to meet with a long term survivor. She credited the Wellness Community in maintaining a positive approach to living with hope during a lengthy illness. An advocate for colorectal cancer, she was keynote speaker at the 2000 Colorectal Conference sponsored by the Wellness Community. She won the honor of Volunteer of the Year and appeared in their February 1999 calendar. She was a member of St. John United Church of Christ, Cumberland. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 14 from 3 to 8 p.m. in Moore & Kirk Irvington Chapel. Memorial services will be Saturday, March 15 at 11 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ, 11000 E. Washington Street, Cumberland, with calling one hour prior to service in the church.2

Mrs. Maybee retired as a US Postal worker and was a life-long member of the Royal Neighbors of America. Prior to her illness, she was an active member of Chetco Senior Center and a past member of the Emblem Club in Brookings. She enjoyed fishing, playing golf and traveling the country and Mexico with her husband
She is survived by five brothers, Lawrence, Hugh, Frank and Landon Heath and sister, Alice Maxine Heath of Oklahoma and Texas.
She is also survived by her husband; children, Joe Wayne Maybee of Modesto, Calif., and Alice Marie Maybee of Brookings.
Grandchildren include Stephanie Anne Maybee of Walnut Creek, Calif., Chief Warrant Officer 3 Johnny E- Cope Jr. of Enterprise, Ala., Cherylee (Cheri) Ann Cope McCorkle and her husband, Robert McCorkle of Brookings,
Also surviving are four great-grandchildren. Marissa Marie Cope-Harvey, Jeffrey Cope Rodriquez, Joshua Allan McCorkle and Elizabeth Nicole Rodriquez.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and infant brother, Hoover Heath.
At Mrs. Maybee request she will be cremated and there will be no funeral services.3

oObit*28 January 2012  On 28 January 2012 at Sturgis, Michigan, the obituary of Howard Overholt read: Howard Overholt, 71, of Burr Oak, the man of many dogs, passed away early Thursday morning Jan. 26, 2012, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
He was born Nov. 26, 1940, in Elkhart, Ind., a son of the late Howard and Bessie (Hopkins) Overholt.
Howard resided in the Burr Oak area for most of his adult life. His early life was lived in the Elkhart area.
On Oct. 3, 1969, he married Joyce Mabie in Elkhart.
Howard, with his wife, Joyce, owned and operated Spring River Ranch in Burr Oak and was involved in horse-trading and cattle-buying.
He loved watching his children barrel racing, spending time with his grandchildren and his many dogs. His beloved dogs were his constant companions and many will remember never seeing Howard at a sale barn without one or more of his dogs.

He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 42 years, Joyce; his children, Kimberly Overholt of Alvordton, Ohio, Coy (Jodi) Overholt of Bronson, Nikie Morgan of Burr Oak, Raina Hudson of Brighton, Colo., and Natalie Overholt of Burr Oak; 10 grandchildren, Jacob Brown, Kate Brown, Gavin Overholt, C.J. Overholt, Tyler Overholt, Sarah Morgan, Gracelyn Morgan, Kasey Hudson, Kristen Hudson and Kayla Hudson; two sisters, Sandy (Dale) Wing and Sharon (Marc) Paskell, both of Elkhart; one brother, David (Lyn) Overholt of Bristol, Ind; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hackman Family Funeral Homes — Hackman Chapel, 114 S. Nottawa St., Sturgis and from high noon-2 p.m. Tuesday at Spring River Ranch, 547 St. Joseph Road, Burr Oak, followed by a procession led by horses to Adams Cemetery, where a graveside service will begin upon arrival at the cemetery. Pastor Terry Siler will officiate.
In honoring Howard's sincere love and appreciation of horses, all are invited and encouraged to bring your horses to the ranch on Tuesday and participate in the procession.
The family also invites friends to join them at the Bronson American Legion following the service for a meal and time of fellowship and sharing of memories of Howard.1
