Betty Lou Maeby was born on Nov. 29, 1924, in Oelwein, the only daughter of William and Leta (Barr) Stevenson. At the age of eight years old, her family moved to Nashua to help run Barr's Cafe. Betty attended school in Nashua and was a graduate from Nashua High School in 1942. In November of 1942, she married Lloyd C. Maeby from Charles City. To this union two children were born. She remained in Nashua while Lloyd was deployed in the air corps during World War II. After returning from the war the family moved to California, because of opportunities for Lloyd in the aircraft industry. Betty often remarked that her heart would always be in Iowa. Betty worked in the family cafe and the school office in Nashua. She also spent time working for the Oliver Corporation in Charles City. She found her greatest joy working in animal hospitals in California. Betty had a love of many animals, especially dogs and cats. She fed and cared for many homeless, hungry, and injured animals. Spending time with these animals always brought her great joy. Time spent with her children and grandchildren was always looked forward to and cherished. Betty is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Cole) Rez of Anaheim, Calif., one granddaughter, Pamela (Eric Maguire) Luna ofAnaheim, Calif., two great-grandchildren, Brandie and Blake Luna of Anaheim, Calif. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lloyd, and a son, Joel.1 |

She will be greatly missed by her children Doug Mabey (Nicole), Patricia Weleski (Gary), Steven Mabey (Sharon), Laura Blass (TJ) Grandchildren Steve Mabey (Marissa), Greg Blass (Sarah), Chelsea Davis (Craig), Kyle Mabey, Renee Mudge (Jason), Ryan Blass (Alicia), Lauren Swigart ( DJ), Megan Palko (Luke) 9 great grandchildren and 3 babies on the way.
