| Anecdote |
- Archibald Gould was born on Nov. 8, 1914 in what became known as Riverdale (previously Pequannock Township).
He was born in a blue house that was "round" off of Route 23. It was a dirt road at the time. He never liked the name Archibald (he never said why) and was known as Archie throughout his life.
Archie was never allowed to attend public school because he was born with a speech impediment. He lived with his grandmother and worked instead on farms and CCA camps. As an adult, he worked for The Butler Rubber Mill, and the Borough of Wanaque. He tremendously enjoyed being outside, working outside and creating small things with his tools. He was introverted, but enjoyed spending time with people and was well liked. He wasn't involved politically, but knew the right people in town to get things done that he wanted.
He married Annabelle Gordon in August of 1944. They lived in Wanaque until Annabelle died in 1983.
Archie was diagnosed with lung cancer two years later and died in 1986. Both are buried at Mt. Rest Cemetary, Butler, New Jersey.
