- Helen Clara (Maybee) Randi gracefully passed on March 23 at her home on Grannis Brook Farm in Canton, N.Y. She was surrounded by her family while holding hands with her beloved husband of 67 years, Dr. Joseph A. Randi.
Helen was born in Canton, N.Y. to Margaret and Nelson Maybee in 1927. After graduating Canton High School at 17 she came to Adelphi University where she earned her degree in Nursing. It was at Adelphi where she met and fell in love with Joseph Randi. They married in 1948. After her husband graduated from Columbia Dental School they returned to the town they fell in love with while at Adelphi. It is here in Garden City where they would live for the next 38 years and raise their five children.
Helen was a very active member of the Garden City community. PTA, cub scouts, Twigs, were just a few of the organizations that she participated in while raising her busy family. She also helped with her husband's dental practice running the front office.
After her children were grown Helen fell in love with the game of golf. It was at Cherry Valley Country Club where she would enjoy the game and meet the friends she would have for life. When she was not golfing she loved needle pointing, knitting, beading, gardening and traveling.
In 1960 Helen and Joe bought the Grannis Brook farm in Canton, NY. It was here where the Randi family would enjoy all their holidays. Helen loved every inch of her farm. She filled her home with beautiful antiques and furniture made by her husband. She filled her gardens with spectacular flowers and vegetables. She loved exploring the woods on skis, in canoes, and on foot. For years Helen would welcome many friends and family to the farm where many happy memories were made.
The Randi's left Garden City in 1992 when Dr. Randi retired from dentistry. They would spend the winter months in Venice, Florida and would return to the farm spring through fall.
Nothing made Helen more happy than when she was surrounded by her family. She was a dedicated, supportive, and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her family always felt her love and will miss her forever.
