- Jack Mabee, 59, one of Hollywood's more colorful restauranteurs, died early yesterday at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital after a minth's illness. He resided at 3212 DeWitt Drive.
Mr Mabee was born in Oklahoma when it was Indian Territory and spent many years as a cowboy in Montana beforming a wild west show called the Great Northern Stampede. He came to Southern California in 1921 and became an automobile dealer in Santa Ana.
Tiring of this, he opened a tavern on Santa Monica Blvd, Hollywood in 1933. The place became a rendezvous for Westerners who drifted to Hollywood hoping to hog-tie a fortune. Mr Mabee grubstaked many of them.
