- Ralph Dysart Mabee, 77, of 13 Narragansett Ave, a retired guard at the Naval Base, died Thursday in the Philadelphia Naval Hospital after a long illness.
He was a Navy veteran of World War I. Mr Mabee retired from the Navy in 1935 [1945] to become a guard at the base. He retired from the job in 1960.
He was a member of the Newport Lodge of Elks and Branch 19 of the Fleet Reserve Association.
Mr Mabee was born in Abington, Mass, on July 31, 1895, a son of Charles and Hope Dysart Mabee. He leaves a brother, Charles Mabee, of New Jersey; a sister Mrs Iva McLaughlin of Pawtucket; three daughters, Mrs Barbara Day of Richmond, Va, Mrs Richard Miller of Oakdale, Conn, and Mrs Vern Shay of Long Beach, Calif; a son Ralph Dysart Mabee Jr of Stuart, Fla; and 13 grandchildren. His wife was the late Mildred Tower Mabee.
