- On June 4, 2003 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Rose Mabee aged 81 years of Selkirk, MB. Mom is survived by her family, who meant everything to her; children, Wayne (Royston, BC), Ella (Gord) Reykdal (Winnipeg Beach), Rick (Karen) (Lockport), Larry (Jean) and Bob (Lois) both of Selkirk; grandchildren, Gordon and Bryan Hall (Calgary), Patrick, Kerry, Martha, John, Jennifer and Bryan (of England); extended family, Jean Mabee (Winnipeg) and Ken Hall (Selkirk);sister Alice Reid and sister-in-law Thelma Land (Selkirk area), Bea McLain (Oakville,ON) and Erlene (Walt) Simpson (Hamilton, ON). Rose was predeceased by her husband Wallace on December 27, 1997. Rose was born on January 2, 1922 at Pigeon Bluff, MB., the youngest of eight children. She met and married Wallace Mabee and they farmed in the Selkirk area. Mom was employed as a school bus driver for many years. She also worked as an interpreter at Lower Fort Garry and as a reporter for a local newspaper. She enjoyed music, dancing, her farm animals and pets and her famous house parties. As well, she enjoyed a spirited game of cards, good political discussions, knitting, quilting, baking, curling and baseball. Mom was able to remain at home until the last two months of her life. Her independence was so important to her. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6 (tonight) from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 7 at 11:00 am. in the St. Matthew's Anglican Church, Cloverdale, with Rev. Stephen Sharman officiating. Interment to follow in the churchyard cemetery.
