- Thomas Mabee, Jr., PhD., 76, of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away on July 28, 2020 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Peoria, IL, to the late Thomas Mabee and Florence Mabee. Tom shared a happy childhood with his siblings, sister Mary (Cunningham), and brothers John and David Mabee who all still reside in Peoria, IL. Tom attended Woodruff High School. He subsequently joined the Marine Corps where he was known as a sharpshooter. Later, he served in the Marine Reserves. After working in several factory jobs, he went on to pursue his education at Illinois Central College and Illinois State University earning a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a Masters degree in School Psychology which launched his professional career in this field. Several years later after moving to St. Petersburg in 1981, Tom attended Florida State University where he proudly earned a PhD. in Counseling Psychology specializing in Marriage and Family psychotherapy. Dr. Tom (Retired) went on to establish a successful Private Practice in St. Petersburg where he helped many for over 30 years. Dr. Tom (Retired) also enjoyed being an Adjunct Professor for 28 years for the Mental Health Counseling Program at Nova SE University where he was held in esteem by both colleagues and his students.
Tom is predeceased by his stepdaughter, Rebecca Pratt, and leaves behind many valued nieces and nephews. He is survived by his devoted wife, Frances Mabee and his granddaughter, Jillian Pratt, who was the daughter he always wanted. He was a beloved husband and Papa. His family shared a very close and special bond. In addition, Tom's friends were dear to him and he enjoyed staying in touch with them. Tom was a long standing avid chess player, scholar and artist. He enjoyed sipping wine in the evening, listening to music and sketching with his precious kitties by his side.
Tom will be remembered by many for his wisdom, deep compassion, playful sense of humor, kindness, and sunny disposition. He will be sorely missed.
Due to the COVID-19, a private Celebration of Life service will be held. Per his request, Tom's ashes will be scattered by loved ones.

- PEORIA - Thomas W. Mabee, 82, of 329 W. Knollcrest died at 3:55 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at Rosewood Health Care Center.
Born April 25, 1921, in Peoria to Clarence and Mary Mabee, he married Florence Landes on Nov. 20, 1941, in Deer Creek. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, David (and Pam) and John (and Lori), both of Peoria, and Dr. Thomas Jr. (and Frances) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; one daughter, Mary (and David) Cunningham of Peoria; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters.
A World War II Army Air Forces veteran, he was a radio instructor, achieving the rank of staff sergeant.
Cremation has been accorded. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at First Federated Church. The Rev. Dr. Robert Gillogly will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church. Private family inurnment of ashes will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens. Cumerford-Endsley-Diggle Funeral Home, 428 W.
