- Floyd Mabie, 56, World War I veteran and employee of Chevrolet Division, General Motors since May 1927, was found dead in his home, 1414 Racine St, early this afternoon. Death was caused by hanging and apparently was a suicide, according to the coroner. The body was found in the basement.
Mabie was a past commander of the American Legion and DAV.
A salvage department employee of Chevrolet, he was scheduled to report for work at 4:30 this afternoon. He had worked in the assembly and inspection departments before going to the salvage department. Previous to 1927 he was a Parker Pen Co employee.
Floyd Mabie, son of Oliver and Pauline Smith Mabie, was born in Janesville March 5, 1898.
He enlisted at Edgerton May 15, 1917, and served with Company M, 128th Infantry, also with Company C, 340th Infantry. After overseas duty he was discharged at Camp Grant April 25, 1919.
He was married to Esther Lucille Cheesbro June 16, 1920 in Janesville.
Surviving are his wife; two sons, Robert of Green Bay, and James of Waukegan, Ill; one daughter, Mrs Elton Broege, La Prairie Township, and seven grandchildren.

- Robert A Mabie, for 24 years the president of United Way of Central Iowa, died of kidney failure Sunday at St Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. He was 67... He retired last year....
Before moving to Des Moines, Mr Mabie was executive director of the Green Bay, Wis community chest and was executive director of Racine, Wis, United Community Services, Inc....
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. In addition to a number of civic, business, and social organizations, Mr Mabie was a member of St Augustin's Church, where funeral services will be held Tuesday. The body was to be cremated.
Survivors include his daughter Kathy Mabie-Benge of Des Moines; a brother, Jim, of Gray's Lake, Ill; a sister, Marilyn Broege of Janesville, Wis; and one grandchild.

- F. James "Jim" Mabie, 83, of Wildwood and Grayslake, IL passed away at his home on Thursday, January 8, 2004. He was born in Janesville, WI on May 26, 1921, the son of the late Floyd J. Sr. and Esther (nee Cheesbro) Mabie. He graduated from Janesville High School in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 1940 - 1945, with the 15th Troop Carrier Squadron in Africa, Sicily, Italy and England. He was Honorably discharged as Master Sergeant on September 6, 1947. He married Armita Haney at St. Mary's Church, Janesville. He was the former manager of the Gambles Store, Clinton, IA, service writer for Reed Randle Motors, Waukegan, self-employed painter and decorator, owner of the unfinished furniture Store, The Wood Nook, and employed for the Maintenance Department for Great Lakes Credit Union retiring in 1991. He continued to work part time in various jobs until 2001. His favorite job was helping his children and grandchildren. Jim was 100% husband and father and especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Armita; his daughters, Cindy (Bill) Bauer, Lynn (Fred) Lange, Judi (Tom) Yingling and Mary Lou (Chris) Claussen; grandchildren, Jamie Bauer, Alisa (Dan Hammett), Charles and Samuel Yingling, and Zachary and Laura Claussen; his sister, Marilyn (Elton) Broege of Janesville, WI; and special friend and caregiver, Anna Smolinska. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob.
Funeral services will begin at 10:15 AM January 13, 2004 from Ringa Funeral Home, 122 S. Rte. 83, Lake Villa, IL, 60046, to St. Paul The Apostle Church, Gurnee, for an 11 AM Funeral Mass. Interment, Avon Centre Cemetery, Lake Villa.
