- The death of A. Warren Eckerson occurred at his home, No. 160 Division street, Amsterdam Thursday evening February 12th, after a lingering illness, hastened by an attack of angina. He was able to be about the house until a few days preceding his death.
Mr. Eckerson was born in Cherry Valley, April 2, 1865, the son of the late Mr, and Mrs, James Eckerson. He received his education in the Cherry Valley Academy, Later he entered the mercantile business and for several years was one of the firm of McKinley & Eckerson.
In 1894 he was married to Miss Vena Mabie and moved to Amsterdam where he conducted a grocery store on East Main street. He had served as assessor for fourteen years. Both Mr. and Mrs. Eckerson were charter members of the East Main Street M. E. church and later on moving to another part of the city, transferred to the First M. E. church. He had filled important offices in both churches. Mr. Eckerson was devoted to his home and to his church and a man of high standing in the community. He was for several years a resident of the town of Roseboom having been engaged in the mercantile business at Pleasant Brook; and had charge of R. J. Smith's business several months during Mr. Smith's absence in the south.
Prayer service was held Saturday evening at 8 o'clock at the home, conducted by the Rev. Ernest F, Tripp, pastor of the First M. E. church, Amsterdam, with funeral service from the M. E. church at Roseboom, Sunday at 2 p. m., the Rev. C. C. Goodell officiating. The church was filled with relatives and friends and there were a large number of floral expressions of sympathy. A wide circle of friends feel in his passing a keen sense of personal loss.
Surviving are the widow, and one sister, Mrs. Frank Winne; and a nephew, A. J. Winne of Cherry Valley, who have the sympathy of all friends in their bereavement. Hanson D. Mabie, Robert J. Smith, Emmett Mabie, George Foland, William Foland and Homer Thompson were the bearers. Interment was made in South Valley cemetery
