Witness-Obituary |
19 May 1902 |
Buffalo, New York [4] |
- When IV, was King of England, William McMichael was appointed physician to the throne. Mrs Lovina McMichael, widow of Jacob McMichael, died in Buffalo at the home of her son Dr James D. McMichael, at 168 Mariner street. She was 86 years old, and her once strong constitution was gradually worn away. Nearly all her sons are physicians, although her husband, who died about 15 years ago was a farmer near Waterford, Canada.
He husband, however, was a descendant from William McMichael, physician to George IV of England. This fact has been a family heritage, apparently one of sufficient force to create in the mionds of all the McMichaels a desire to make physicians of themselves. Here is a list of Mrs McMichael's children:
Dr S. B. McMichael, Wheeler, Ind; Dr L. D. McMichael, Chicago, Ill;Dr D. A. McMichael, Dr J. E. McMichael; Dr A. R. McMichael and H. McMichael, New York; Rev R. F. McMichael, Arlington, NJ; Mrs A. Lutes, Hamilton, Ont; and Dr James D McMichael, 168 Mariner street, this city.
The funeral of Mrs McMichael will take place tomorrow afternoon from 168 Mariner street. Interment at Waterford, Ont.

Witness-Obituary |
- Jacob McMichael, fifth son of James, married Lavinia, daughter of Simon Mabee, and settled on Lot 13, 5th concession of Townsencl. This latter-day pioneer proved himself a worthy brother of Richard McMichael, and much that has been written of the latter will apply to Jacob as well. He was upright and honorable in all the busy activities of his life, and he left a record behind him of which his children may proudly boast. He was a model farmer and figured prominently in the various agricultural societies. For many years he officiated as deacon in the old Boston Baptist church. He died at a ripe old age, leaving ten sons—Simon, Lafayette, James, David, Aaron, Hezekiah, Jacob, Homer, Arkell and Orvell; and two daughters —Abigail and Mary. Of this family three are doctors in New York City, one is a doctor in Chicago, one a Baptist preacher in New York State, and one is an artist and another a merchant in the city of Buffalo.
