- Funeral services for O. Frank Maybee, who died Saturday morning at the Marathon county home and hospital after a short illness, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Helke funeral home, the Rev. F. J. Turner officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn cemetery.
The deceased was born in Elmira, NY, April 17, 1864. He was married to Josephine Passeneau August 31, 1898 in Wausau. The couple separated about fifteen years ago. Mr Maybee came to Wausau more than fifty years ago and was engaged in the draying business until poor health forced him to give up this work. He traveled with a number of carnivals and circuses in the days when they were transported by horse and wagon. He was a trapeze artist until he suffered injuries in a fall which made him discontinue acrobatic work.
Mr Maybee was once a jockey in New York and in Wisconsin. It is said he rode many winners, including "Harvey the West". For a time he served as a government agent in the White Earth reservation in Minnesota. He also had experience as a brakeman for a short time on an eastern railroad.
The deceased was well known in this section of the country as an entertainer. He won many prizes in old-time fiddlers' contests.
He is survived by four children, Franklyn Maybee of Wausea, Mrs Sidney Jacobson of Winnebago, Mrs August Anderson of Racine and Chester Maybee of Sacramento, Cal. All the children will be here for the funeral with the exception of Chester who will unuble to attend on account of illness.
