- Gifford Montague Mabie, 84, of 26 Fallon St., died at 12:30 a.m Sunday (Jan 26, 1992) at his residence.
He was born April 22, 1907 in Kansas City, Mo., a son of Edmund Gifford and Maude Starr (McGlenn) Mabie.
He was educated at the Horace Mann School in New York City and was a registered representative of the New York Stock Exchange with Scott and Stringfellow.
He was a past president of the Druid Hills Kiawana Club in Atlanta, Ga., and the Staunton Kiawanis Club and served as lieutenant governor while a member in Atlanta. He had served as president of the Staunton-Augusta County Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of which he had also been campaign chairman.
During World War II, he served with the Army at the Armored School at Fort Knox, Ky., from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret (Best) Mabie; 10 children, Gifford M. Mabie, Jr of Tulsa, Okla., Lt. Col. (Ret) Gordon William Mabie of Yorktown, David Charles Mabie of Nokesville, Curtiss Stillwell Mabie of Ellenwood, Ga., Katherine Mabie Hickie of Bristol, Tenn., John Peter McGlenn Mabie of Livingston, Mont., Dr Richard Best Mabie of Buffalo, W. Va., Stephen Howard Mabie of Raleigh, N.C., Faith Mabie Fitch of Coral Springs, Fla., and Mary Mabie Flint of Staunton; and 21 grandchild and one great-grandchild.
A service will be conducted at Covenant Presbyterian Church by the Rev. C. Gray Norsworthy.

- Marjory (Best) Mabie, died on Sunday morning (Dec 4, 1944) at Augusta Medical Center.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1913 at New York City, a daughter of Charles B. And Hazel (Stillwell) Best.
She was a member and elder of Covenant Presbyterian Church, member and past president of Augusta County Tuesday Club, and member of Blue Ridge Wellesley Club. She had done volunteer work at Woodrow Wilson Welcome Center, Meals on Wheels and King's Daughters' Hospital.
Her husband, Gifford Montague Mabie, died on Jan. 26, 1992.
Surviving are seven sons, Gifford M., Jr of Tulsa, Okla, retired Lt. Col. Gordon William of Yorktown, David Charles of Nokesville, John Peter McGlenn of Livingston, Mont.., Dr Richard Best of Buffalo, W. Va., Stephen Howard of Raleigh, N.C., and Curtiss Stillwell Mabie of Ellenwood, Ga.; three daughters, Katherine (Mabie) Hickie of Bristol, Tenn., Faith (Mabie) Fitch of Coral Springs, Fla., and Mary (Mabie) Flint of Staunton; 22 grandchildren; and a great-grand child.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Covenent Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Robert L. Lantz.

- Miss Marjorie Best of 76 Rockledge Road, secretary to the director of education at Sarah Lawrence College, yesterday was married to Gifford Montague Mabie, newly elected Twelfth Ward Supervisor.
The nuptials were solemnized at 5pm at the home of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Beare Best. The Rev. Dr. John Henderson Powell, Jr.. pastor of the Reformed Church in Bronxville, officiated, assisted by the Rev Howard Calvin Shaffer, fiancé of the bride's sister, Miss Elinore Best
The bride's hoop-skirted gown was of ivory slipper satin, made with a standing collar. Her tulle veil was arranged from a coronet of lace and she carried white sweetpeas, roses and bouvardia.
Miss Elinor Best, as maid of honor, wore a turquoise blue faille taffeta gown and a matching velvet
hat. Her bouquet was of pink chrysanthemums.
Brainerd Hunt Whitbeck of Bronxville was best man. A reception was held after the ceremony.
Supervisor Mabie and his bride are on a honeymoon through the South and on their return will make their home at 74 Rossmore Avenue.
The bride, a member of the Bronxville League for Service, is a graduate of Bronxville High School
and attended Bradford Academy in Bradford, Mass. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Wellesley College in 1935 and attended the Katharine Gibbs School in New York.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Gifford Mabie of 1470 Midland Avenue, Supervisor Mabie is a director of the Board of Trade in New York and president of the Young Men's Board of Trade there
