- Verlin Dean Mabie, 70, 2000 W. Wilden Ave., Goshen, who recently returned to Goshen after 12 years in Wisconsin, died at 4:30 a.m. today at Goshen General Hospital. He had been ill for some time with cancer. Mr. Mabie was a former employee of Western Rubber Co. And a member of the Goshen Moose Lodge. He was born Feb 2, 1912, in North Webster, to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin (Eva Snoke) Mabie. On Nov 23, 1932, he married Mary Helen McDevitt, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Charles and Richard, both of Goshen, and James, Elkhart; 14 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, his mother, North Webster, and two brothers, Merl, Missouri, and Vernon, Syracuse. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Harris Funeral Home, Syracuse, where services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Chester Reed will officiate. Burial will be in North Webster Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Elkhart County Cancer Society.

- James Dean "Jim" Mabie, 72, of Elkhart and Bonita Springs, Fla., died Sunday (April 6, 2008) at his winter home in Bonita Springs. He was born May 30, 1935, to Verlin D. and Mary Helen (McDevitt) Mabie.
Mr. Mabie is survived by his wife of 471/2 years, F. June (Roose-Vantine) Mabie; two children, Ricky Dean (Becky) Mabie of Mishawaka and Penny Sue Mabie of Goshen; two stepchildren, Mitchell Dean (Lori) Vantine of Elkhart and Cynthia Kay Winske of Bonita Springs; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles B. (Marge) Mabie and Richard D. (Gloria) Mabie, both of Sebring, Fla.
Cremation will take place in Bonita Springs, with a memorial service at a later date in Elkhart. Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Bonita Springs, is assisting with arrangements.
Mr. Mabie was an Elkhart city police officer for 251/2 years. He served as a motorcycle officer, training officer, assistant chief of police and chief of police from 1984 to 1986.
He was a member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 52 and was past president of the Elkhart Evening Optimist Club.

- SEBRING, Fla. — Charles "Chuck" Mabie, 86, of Sebring, passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2019. He was born on June 27, 1933.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 69 years, Marjorie; five children, Cindy Cavender, Charlie (Beth Ann) Mabie, John (Chris) Covington, Cheryl (Sean) Grainger and Christine (Dwayne) Young; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Richard Mabie.
He retired to Sebring in 2000. He was the owner of Mabie's 110 Club in Goshen, Indiana, from 1966-1974 and Margie's Lounge in Millersburg, Indiana, from 1972-1978. He served on Elkhart Township Fire Department as a firefighter, day man and training officer from 1978-2000. Also was the Governor of The Goshen Moose Lodge.
Chuck loved sitting at his computer, walking down to the lake and watching the sunrise, eating out and enjoying the Florida sunshine.
