Carmel, New York [11] |
- Hon. Henry Mabie. a prominent Putnam county politician and holder of various elective and appointive offices died Wednesday night, Dec. 10. in Albany of heart failure, aged 72 years. Mr. Mabie was born in East Fishkill in 1811, a son of Sylvester and Caroline Mabie. His parents moved to Patterson when he was quite young. He attended the local schools and the Delaware Literary institute at Franklin, N. Y. He taught school for a few years but the greater part of his life was devoted to farming. As a Republican he took an active interest in politics and in 1882 was elected supervisor of Patterson and upon taking his seat in the board was elected chairman, an unusual honor. He served two years as supervisor and was then elected assemblyman. He was appointed clerk of the board of supervisors in 1877 and served three years. In 1898 he was again elected supervisor of Patterson and served until 1911. He had served as librarian in the state assembly several years and during the past few years had lived there.
He leaves a wife, who was with him in Albany; and one daughter living in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He was a member of Harlem Valley Lodge P. & A M., of many years standing. The funeral will be held at his late home in Patterson Saturday afternoon.
