- Elizabeth "Betty" Jean Mabie, 95, of Rockford passed from this life into the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Saturday, May 28, 2011, in Alden Nelson Debes Health Care Center. Born Oct. 3, 1915, in Rockford, the daughter of William and Hazel (Lawson) Kinney. She lived her whole life in Rockford, graduating from Rockford High School in 1933. She married Harland D. Mabie on Jan. 1, 1937; he died Oct. 17, 1962. Betty worked for the Board of Education for many years. She was a charter member of the Calvary Christian Church, where she taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Calvary Mission Guide. Elizabeth was devoted to her family and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Merrill) Davis of Truman, Minn., James (Juanita) Mabie of Joplin, Mo., Mark A. (Jill) Mabie of Kingwood, W.Va., and Annette (James) Ragan of Rockford; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Kinney; sister-in-law, Emmi (Muecke) Kinney; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents; brothers, Robert and William Kinney; and sister, Isabel Crosby. Memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 11, in Calvary Christian Church, 5455 Charles St., with Pastor Steve Doyle officiating. The family suggests donations be made to Calvary Christian Church; or to the Mabie Memorial Scholarship Fund at Lincoln Christian University, 100 Campus View Drive, Lincoln, IL 62656. - Margaret Sarah Busey Mabie of Houston, Texas, formally of Palm Harbor, Florida passed from this life on Tuesday May 18, 2010. Mrs. Mabie was born in Champaign, Illinois on January 26, 1916 to Albert and Estella Busey. Mrs. Mabie was married to Byron Leroy Mabie at the University Christian Church in Champaign, Illinois on August 27, 1939. Following their marriage they moved to Rockford, Illinois where they lived until Mr. Mabie Retired from Eclipse Corporation in 1977. To this union two daughters were born. Carolyn (Harold) Eye of Richmond, Texas and Marilyn (Mel) Gresham of Monticello, Kentucky. Mrs. Mabie was a homemaker for most of her married life and was a member of several organizations including the Daughters of the American Revolution, Christian Womens Club, and Rockford Club.Mrs. Mabie was also a member for many years of the Tarpon Springs Christian Church and recently of Westside Christian Church in Houston. Mrs. Mabie is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her two daughters, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and her sister-in-law Mrs. Betty Mabie of Rockford, Illinois. Mrs. Mabie will be truly missed by all her family and friends.A visitation will be held at Curlew Hills Funeral Home on Monday, May 24, 2010 from 11 a.m. – 12: p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m.
